Case Question

THANK YOU AZBILLIARDS

I just got a New case (On Q) 3x6

My question is that the butt seems to move around quite a bit. Is this a necessary evil of being able to insert screw up or down?

I hate to see my new cue swaying in the wind and nailing the PVC?

Should I be alarmed?

Any input on these cases?

Thanks,

Niner

well its bound to rattle around since the tube is wider. the j&j i have never has this problem cuz it's spring loaded so its pushed up against a big foam pad on the bottom of the lid which prevents it from rattling. i notice that it rattles in my justis too but the person i bought it from inserted a cushioning pad under the lid which protects the cue and prevents it from rattling. it is actually a great idea and i'm happy its in there.

Have you benn hands on with an On Q?

The top has a very plush lining of the fury sort.

I'm not so sure?

i dunno just cuz it's there doesnt mean it's doing anything. if the joint of the butt part of ur cue cant reach the furry lining, it's still gonna rattle around. so that furry lining will be useless unless u drop ur case upside down or if u swing it side to side (in the trunk of a car or something). but the padding i'm describing is thicker and the joint protect on the butts of my cue presses against it to prevent it from moving around.

but i never really had a huge problem since u can fit a shaft and a butt in one of the sections designed for a butt in a justis case. it fits perfect and prevents anything from rattling.

Both

I've had both the "loose" cases and snug cases, both have pros and cons. These cases were both well constructed and neither damaged any of the cues. It does get aggravating or a little bit distracting when I hear a cue butt or shaft rattling around in loose case, but no damage has resulted from it.

Good luck with the new case. I've heard they're very well built.

I dont have a JP On Now

I wonder if this could be the problem. There is still some serious roomage in there.

The furry thing is lambs wool. It acts as a sealer when the lid is closed.

I have a On Q and I don't see any problem with the loose fit. The tubes are lined and being loose doesn't really hurt anything.

you do NOT want a cue to be "held" tight in any way. you want it to be able to move. any case that holds cue parts snug will have the ability to make those parts form themselves to the shape the case and could possibly warp them. i've always liked tube cases for this reason and with them i always put the joint and tips in first (make sure the parts have protectors on them) and always pick manufacturers that will allow the top of the tube to slightly snug the sleeve end and shaft collar ends of the cue only and not the whole parts. this will give the critical parts of the cue room to move and will not affect the cue parts in any other way than they would act naturally.

I had this same issue with my Justis case (tube). It bothered me knowing I had movement to the point of hearinig/feeling it as I used the case. I solve the issue by draping a common hanky over the joint and using a wide elastic to hold it in place. If you use a joint protector than it is difficult to grab it out. The elastic takes up most of the space and muffles the hard surfaces. I would not reccommend this technique with out a hanky so to protect the cue from the rubberband over extended periods of nonuse.

I appreciate the input

It seems as though this is not such a bad thing, and a case of On Q's quality should do it's job. I suppose the Manzino that candidly was a strath for me makes me a but gun shy so to speak as I appreciate the things that I work hard for; AND the last thing I would want is an user error to ding on the forearm.

I MUST GET A JOINT PROTECTOR FOR THE BUTT!

What are the odds of calling Bob and getting him to stop one of Lucky's cues to make me a set, wouldn't that be sweet.

Theres someone out of Hawaii I believe that makes a mean set any ideas as to who could match up my ring work Bob uses a pretty rare pin no? 3/8 16

Thanks AZ'rs
