Whether you're a smoker in a non-smoking pool room and need to step outside (or nature calls) frequently, the last thing that should be on your mind are cue thieves. Here is my latest case, modded with two lockable places (only one shown) but I also use a 6 ft. Kryptonite cable loop to wrap it around poles, table legs, etc.

Seen this mod a few times. Definitely keeps people out of your case. However most cues are not stolen due to being taken out of the case, they are stolen when the cues are already out of the case.

Once upon a time I did a case for Oliver Ortmann. The reason I got the chance to do one for him is because his previous case and contents were stolen. So I did the case and installed a motion sensing alarm in it. When set the alarm would shriek loudly if the case was moved.

He used it once leaving his case under a pool table. Someone kicked the case accidentally and it sharked the whole pool room. He never turned it on again.

I think everyone should lojack their cues and case somehow. Then at least if it gets heisted you have some chance of locating it.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion! Lo-jack or other small GPS system will be my very next project, then I'll be looking to integrate biometric security versus the inconvenience of lock/key. I'm not sure why many players leave their cue out when not in a match for more than a couple min. (like laying it on the table or getting a drink) Theft can take less than 20 seconds.

It is scary to take nice things out in public. Particularly if your out by yourself with nobody to guard you belongings during potty breaks etc... . But I have to say to say that if I were inclined to steal a cue from that locked case, I could use a box cutter type knife to cut the flap off in one quick stroke. I doubt it would take more than 1-2 seconds.

Now! you have brought to light a whole new and very important aspect of the "Pool industry" that could really use some attention. SECURITY.

I think there is some desperate need to look into keeping honest people honest and thieves at bay when it comes to our precious toys and toy boxes.

but to be the devils advocate
i assume (icbw) but when a cue is stolen so is the case
so if you have a lock on the case
to me thats a red flag to a theive STEAL ME
id just walk out with your case
and open up my christmas present in private
just sayin
p.s.
i hope they cut the nuts off anyone proven to steal a cue:smile:
 
Case

Couldn't someone just grab the whole case and then cut the lock off later ? I don't know about the rest of you but when I hit the pisser, MY CUES COMES WITH ME.
 
I've played in so many tourneys where people move around from table to table, sometimes quite a distance for their next match. I always show up early to the tourney to warm up. The tables I use are the actual tourney tables as well next to the front counter. So I "anchor" down there. The Kryptonite lock cable I didn't provide a picture of intertwines here and there. The point is, some security is better than no security and the lock cable cannot be cut in seconds. As I know most people there, it'd be nearly impossible for someone to run and let me know that a person is eyeing my bag or making any attempts at it.
