Cataract surgery with standard Medicare lenses, how's your pool game with these

My older pool playing friend is about to get his second cataract eye surgery done with the standard Medicare lenses that seem to be setup for farther distances and he is concerned about his pool game because of this. Who has had both of their eyes done with these standard lenses and how was your pool game afterwards?

Tell him to get the upgraded lenses and pay the difference.
I jumped up 2 levels from standard and got the toric lenses as I have an astigmatism.
I have 20/20 vision now for distance but still need readers for close up.
Playing pool is great vision wise.

Make sure his doc explains exactly what the basic does and more importantly what they will not do.
 
Wife and I had the basic done. She's thrilled as she was legally blind before, glasses were like coke bottles. Her distance is fine, close up reading at times she needs glasses. Me, they screwed up and I'm more close up than distance, still pass a drivers test though. I read everything great, car instruments are sharp as a tack, computer and phone viewing sharp sharp. Pistol shooting sharp, road signs slightly fuzzy but readable.

my opthamologist did not think special lenses would help my eye issues

Why do you need glasses after Cataract surgery? You have brand new lenses now in your eyes.
Did you not get them for distance?
That's why I say that these docs should explain what the particular lenses will not do.
I had 5 different choices of lenses.
Don't get me wrong. I love my new lenses after Cataract surgery.
I play pool sometimes 7 days a week with 20/20 vision.
Apparently there are 3 vision fields.
One option covers all 3 without glasses.
I wish it was explained to me.
I would have payed for that one and not needing reading glasses.

Went from 400 vision and needing contacts to 20/20 in my right and 20/25 in my left. I think they cost me $2K extra per eyeball but totally worth it.

BTW, it also matters who your surgeon is. From what has happened to friends, if you go to a mill, your results are a crap shoot.

My pool game is better than before, most of the time. I have DME. That can make it cloudy again. Like right now, I have a big floater from bleeding. If I ever get cataracts again, I'll buy the upgraded lenses. My left eye had detached retina. For a good while before being repaired. The last numbers, that i remember, were 20/60? or 65 in it. My right eye's dang near perfect, when I avoid the bleeding.
 
Anybody have experience with “light adjustable lens”? As explained to me, you have to where dark glasses after surgery, and during the adjustment period. You go back two or three times, a week or two apart. They have you look at an eye chart, and adjust them, using a beam of light. Once all good, they lock them in. I was told 10 G extra.

if you read my post i needed glasses before surgery
my eye issues cant be fixed without glasses
cataracts fix you are looking thru a dirty window
how you see is more complicated than that for some people
i am one of them

You had new lenses and still need glasses in order to see. The lenses did not correct your vision issues I guess. Your specific case is more complicated.

Wow, sounds like a tough deal, I am sorry to hear that.

Adjustable Lasik lenses? Do you end up with like a knob sticking out the side of your head??? I seriously don't know but I had to ask. 🤔🤔:):)

I got distance lenses installed, my far vision is now 20/20. The lenses definitely helped intermediate distance also, from about 3 feet out. My near vision I need glasses to read.

My wife is getting J and J PureSee lenses. We’ll see how that works at $2500 per eye.

Is your 20/20 for near or far?

My Toric lens.... I can drive better at night and read the gauges better...as for for pool. I suck, blow, and eat shit as bad as I did before and after cataracts. But I have nice cues.

I'm at 20/20 on the standard wall vision test.

I'm good from about two to three feet out -- I need readers though for anything up close.
