The year was 1937...Television was still in its infancy, so the people that could afford it, listened to serial radio shows and news in the evening.
On December 13th a CBS show called Calvacade of America featured a skit portraying John Hyatt's discovery of modern plastic while trying to invent a substitute for the ivory billiard ball.

classic radio at it's best, the narrator sounds like that guy in the educational films we'd watch in school...

plastic is still a blessing compared to earlier plastics, called "bakelite" were more brittle when compared to modern plastic. In China, you'll have to pay for each plastic bag you need at the grocery store, an attempt to curb the waste caused by not using reusable bags.
