Is there a consensus regarding ceiling fans above tables? Besides being a risk to a cue that is hoisted above ones head, are there other issues to consider?

I see your point. Let me put it another way; if you have a 15' ceiling above your pool table, what issues might concern you about a ceiling fan?

lights swaying from the air movement. Try oscilating fans mounted to the wall, that way you wont worry about your shafts either.

Dirt.

Fan blades attract the foulest looking dirt I have ever seen. This stuff comes off the blades and can fall on the table.
