The Joss is like new. And the points fadeing matches with the fadeing on the buttsleeve!
When the second shaft shows up I will do better pictures.
Nick :)

Dayam that's a sweet JOSS! If that thing could talk I bet it would tell some great stories!

I palyed with one just like it for years.

It had black and yellow veneers. Timi refinished it too. He also made me a 13.25 shaft for it. I might shoot with this Cue one day. They are monster players these old Ivory Joint Joss Customs.
Traded mine for a big Scruggs. This is one pretty Cue. Don't see it going any where but to the 6x12!
Nick :)

What year do you think this cue was built? Was Timmy Scruggs working for Danny Janes then?? Because this cue looks alot like several Scrugg's cues I've owned over the years. Is it possible TS is the man here???

Around 1974-1976???

I think so too John. She's a nice one. Nick, you da' man !
"country" Bob

I don't know Danny's handwriting.

Timi did do the Ivory Joint Cues while he was at Joss Cues. He had a time of it until he figured out why some joints cracked overnight. That was a big deal back then.
Great Joss Cue to whoever built it.
One just like new monster from my past. probably almost 40 years old.

Nick :)

No problem Nick. Glad I could help.

I agree, 1974-76 on the logo. Danny's engraving.

Great looking cue...:D

I like this better for the Joss!

So it is no longer for sale. Workes out kind of nice.

I wonder about the JO on JOSS being tied together with the top cross. I don't remember seing this on any other older Joss cues. Is this a usual signature on their cues from this era?

John

By the way Nick, how does this cue hit and feel? That ivory joint with a big pin has to be a real solid player. (<:

And you have another shaft that is a match, Killer cue.

Thanks for the info.

really nice cue
can anyone tell me the history about ivory jointed joss ie from what time period were the made??
only during scruggs time there??
do they still offer that as an option??

Definitely Danny's logo - he never did them as well as Billy did.

Could be earlier than 1974.

Dan did some early cues, as you can by the photo the decision to let Bill do the logo, was a good one.

It is a super nice old cue.

Joss made ivory jointed cues before Tim came on board - late 60s/early 70s.

I'm sure Danny will build you a custom cue with an ivory joint.

These two ivory joint cues have the Bill Stroud engraved logo - he left in 1972.

Here are two he did in 1973-74. It looks like by the time Nick's cue was completed he had some practice. I agree, Nick's cue is a JOSS classic. They don't get much better than that. Billiard cue you should post some pics of the great ones you've had....

for certain years, the logo changed..

on the old engraved joss cues, the way they engraved it can help you narrow down the age.. and by knowing what years bill stroud, tim scruggs and dan janes all worked on cues.. you can kinda narrow down who had a helping hand in desiggning and building the cues...

i am not postive which logo came first or last...

but there is the one that was posted here, and there was one where the letters look italicized and have a slant to them... and there probably is another one too..

Below, the one on the left is a Stroud logo. The right a Janes logo.
They used 5/16x18, 3/8x10, 5/16x14 pins.

That is not what I said at all.The Logo looks like Bob's work. If Bob did the logo Timi did the Ivory Cue work at that time and I am sure much more.. Timi did the Ivory Joint Joss Cues while he was at Joss Custom Cues. Timi ,Danny and Bobby are pals to this day. Brothers more like.
Among other things Bobby did the logo's while at Joss. He had trouble with the SS's and squinched them a little. I do not know for sure but the ss's here are irregular.
I am ambivoliant to all that. I think this Cue is too cool. Plays too sweet to describe.
Thanks,
Nick :)
