I keep eyeing this offering on E-bay, description says: "This is a brand new centennial cue case, 2x4, burgundy ostrich".

Question is does any one know for sure if when the Centennial Cue Cases were being made was REAL OSTRICH an offering or could this be embossed Ostrich Cowhide?

The only Full Quill Ostrich case I have ever laid eyes on is an Engles. Others have used real Ostrich and leather ends,but never full quill. BTW,the Centennial is embossed.

Had a 2x4 Centennial once in genuine elephant, so guess it's possible they did some in real ostrich. Never seen one yet, though.
 
I had the same exact model except in tan ostrich. I'm 100% sure this is embossed leather. I think he priced his cases the way he did because it is extremely rare to find an unused centennial. A little overpriced though if you ask me. I would just buy a nice Ron Thomas or a new old stock George case.

Here is the skinny: It takes a 24 square foot Ostrich hide to have enough Quill to cover an entire case. At $30 a square,the hide number is over $700. Add about another $700 for the knowledge it takes to work with the hide and transform it into a cover for a case.

I bought this case from Engles for $1000. There are maybe two more FULL QUILL cases done by him. Ron Thomas,and Mr. Whitten have both done Ostrich,but neither has done one like Engles did.
 
It very well could be real. I own a genuine Ostrich Centennial case... so I know for a fact that some were made. Mine is new and never used, except for storage. Mine is a 1x2. I've often wondered how much it would be worth, although I would never sell it because it was given to me a gift. A leathersmith verified it as being the real thing.

Could you post pics please.
 
The one in the auction is embossed. Take a close look at the end of the leather,nothing like what real Ostrich hide looks like. The covering is clearly embossed leather.

Sorry, I don't own a camera. It's tan... natural, I think it's called. It is simply beautiful. I've also owned a genuine Eel skinned Centennial before, and have seen other Eel cases, so I don't think they as nearly as rare as Ostrich. And once I saw an embossed Ostrich Centennial that looked unbelievably real.

You could be right about that case. Viewing from the top with the lid off, my case looks to be made with a thin Ostrich skin laminated to leather... I suppose to make it thicker. The two different leathers can be clearly seen. Heck, maybe mine is embossed too... I dunno.
