Center Ball Question/Explanation

seems like this has been talked about before, so forgive me for bringing it up. but i need some clarification here.

when i read pool magazines, books, watch tapes, etc, etc, and the article/video/instructor says to hit a shot with "Center Ball" is he or is he not talking about Stun?

to me, if you just simply hit the cue ball in the center that is NOT stun! it is pretty much an easy version of follow. if they are meaning stun, yes, you can stun the cue ball by hitting it in the center if you hit it a little harder and get the sliding effect.

so do these people mean Stun when then they say Center Ball?????

I think they mean tip location.
You can hit the center and still make that cueball slide for a long distance with a punch stroke.

No. S/he is talking about center ball.

I believe if they meant stun, they would say stun. More than anything else, centerball means "without sidespin."

Yeah, for a while this confused me as well. After reading on these forums for a while, I finally realized that when they say "center", they only mean it in one dimension (the horizontal dimension) as opposed to two dimensions. So as long as you're up and down the vertical axis of the CB, you're considered at center ball.

Sorry, maybe I was unclear. Basically I agree with bruin and mikepage. Center ball is anything without side english.

I know a local player who has only learned from other players. He has never read a book on pool and does not know how to turn on a computer.

What he calls "Center Ball" is actually stun. This is a center hit slightly below center. Stun is the correct word, not "Center Ball" so far as I know.

In all the books I have read and on the internet, a center ball hit is dead center or not using any english. Stun or stop shot is shooting so the cue ball stops dead in its tracks with a straight on shot.

And that makes more sense - people know what you are talking about.
