Keith,

I just read your column about playing one-pocket with Efren Reyes with Martin Scorsese in the gallery. That was a good story.

Were you at the tournament in Texas in 1985 when Efren "Cesar Morales" Reyes showed up incognito and blew away the field?

Any thoughts or stories, first or second hand, would be greatly appreciated.

I was there in Texas in '85 when Efren showed up as "Cesar Morales." It wasn't surprising to me because I already knew he could play. Efren made his debut in L.A. He came looking for me, and we ended up playing a couple sets of 9-ball and broke even. I tried to get him to play me on the bar table, but he was well-informed.

King Cueball, when I was playing good on the bar table, I could run a lot of racks, and no one, not even Efren, could wear me down. Back then, I played with the big cue-ball on the 3-1/2-by-7's and 4-by-8's, and they couldn't play with that big cue-ball as well as I could. The Philippinos hadn't been introduced to the big rock at that time when they first came to the States.

King Cueball,

I know Efren is your hero, but do you have any clue who Keith McCready is? He was probably THE best bar boxer in the world during the 70's (along with maybe Buddy Hall). You seem to think that no one else can play besides Reyes? Reyes is a phenomenal player and probably the best all around player in the world for the tournaments or cash, but on any given day he can get busted by McCready in any game. Those are just the facts.

Was it on video/TV before ?
if it is, could they have still
a copy for it ? Coz for me that was
very historical as far as Filipino invasion is
concern on US soil nd on Efren Reyes phenomenon
on the game of billiard...

Are you mad at your money, Matt?

No lack of respect to both Keith and Efren, but the Efren of today is handing out spots to guys like Keith.

I personal racked for Keith in Knoxville while he played the ghost. The bet was break and run 5 racks in one hour. If you missed a ball your count on games started over. Keith ran 13 racks in 22 minutes!

Who in the hell believes this? What size table did this happen on? How do you recall it Keith? I mean no disrespect to Mr McCready but this sounds like BS to me.

No disrespect taken, Indianaguy. Yes, it happened. Every dog has its day, even a mutt like me.;)

Get off with your bad self!!

Tell 'em all how it was!!

Keith, for sure, didn't need to think long.

Kumusta bay ( how are you buddy?.
The earliest video of Efren I've found is a 1989 match between Efren and Keith in Caesar's Tahoe. Keith got a lucky roll and won a hill-hill match. :D
Barry Thompkins and The Miz were announcing for ESPN.

This story is true. It was done on a 1903 Brunswick 9-footer.

KC, Efren would have no chance at all.
Efren no like bar boxes. Hell, a local Mexican last-pocket 8-ball beat him here last year.
But, Parica and Pagulayan? Those two can play the bar box.
Dave Matlock would take any pro on the bar box I heard .

Hi Joseph!
It's nice to know that there is someone here who is a filipino
and at the same time can speak cebuano. Sa atoa pa diring
pinulongan BISDAK (bisayang dako). :D

You are a lucky guy that you know those guys (efren, busta and others)
up close. Me here i never saw them in flesh, although of course
i saw them many times on tv. I am a billiard fan because you know
na, filipino like us billiard table are as ubiquitous as our basketball
court here and on one time or another you play billiard. Me i use
to play billiard even during my elementary school years up to high
school but beginning college until now as a professional, i only
touch cues once in a blue moon so to speak.

It's nice also to know that somehow we have a sport that
filipino could really be proud of (aside from bowling of course
wherein we just recently win the world cup title by CJ Suarez).
Seeing efren, busta, warren (who hails from cebu) and others
makes me really proud, that a third world country like us
with so many politicking in our sports, notwithstanding our small
number of populations compared to other countries, still managed
to be the best in the world if not the best !!!

Again its nice to know someone from the Philippines, and hope you
could help me one way or the other
as i visit this forum as frequently as i could.

God bless.

Best Regards
