Who in the hell believes this? What size table did this happen on? How do you recall it Keith? I mean no disrespect to Mr McCready but this sounds like BS to me.
i used to watch at hard times. i have seen keith win at 1 hole and break even in 1 hole with efren. keith can play, don't think he can't. and he is fun to listen to(that is a good thing keith :) )

All I know - and this is straight from Buddy Hall - is that Buddy says he has a standing challenge to play Efren, Jose and Bustamante for ten dimes each no spots. This may be total bullshit but I have not yet heard of anyone, Efren included offering a spot to Buddy. Keith has already admitted getting a spot from Efren before in the Color of Money story in Inside Pool. I think that all the in-the-know crowd agrees that Keither with the Ether (sorry Keith, don't know if you like that moniker) was absolutely one of the most feared players in his time and nobody has to like it playing him now.

At Derby City they weren't exactly lining up to play him. Chris Bartrum(sp) won something like $3000 playing against Keith/Little Jon Macias and then REFUSED to even think about playing Keith alone.

Keith, tell us the story of Efren and the Houston tournament from your perspective - please :-))

John

hey keith...congrats on the win.....wanted to know if you ever got to play matlock on the bar box or even king kong out of california.....would love to hear some stories of you and these guys if you have any......when i was just starting out all i ever heard was about matlock on the bar box and then i got to meet king kong in la once and was told matlock didnt want any of that guy on the bar table either.....i never have seen yoou play in person but i hear you hit'em sweet......hope all is well with you and yours, juston coleman

I've had the pleasure of seeing Keith play several times over the years, he has a fantastic touch with the cue ball. When he's in gear I don't think any one has to like it.
In 1983 I played in a Miller Lite tournament in Vegas @ Caesars Palace and saw Keith play a little, he was playing $1000 sets with some guy giving up the 8 and playing left handed. just a side note. Keep hittin em Keith, Sam

Was it on video/TV before ?
if it is, could they have still
a copy for it ? Coz for me that was
very historical as far as Filipino invasion is
concern on US soil nd on Efren Reyes phenomenon
on the game of billiard...

Here's a link to an article about the tournament where Efren Reyes showed up as Cesar Morales:

You will also see Reyes incredible shot.

Was that tournament caught on tape? If anyone could get any matches with Efren from this tournament i would pay a nice price.

Kumusta bay ( how are you buddy?.
The earliest video of Efren I've found is a 1989 match between Efren and Keith in Caesar's Tahoe. Keith got a lucky roll and won a hill-hill match. :D
Barry Thompkins and The Miz were announcing for ESPN.

I actually had a video tape from 1987, it was
the final of the Tara Open, between Reyes and
Strickland race to 15. What a great match, they were
both very young and played very fast, loose and
fearless. I thnk they missed one shot each in the
entire set! Strickland ended up winning 15-14.

I loaned the tape to someone, and never saw it again.

I have that tape. I forgot that was earlier.
Mark Wilson reads the score at the end of each game.
Efren plays safe on Earl and Earl lucks one ball in.

And then, years later, Efren plays safe on Earl and Efren lucks a ball in by accident. Then kicks one in 3-rails w/ shape. Sands Open (?95, ?97)

leon, I do know Larry. He still plays a little, but not like he did then.I played Frank Mcgown at that tournament. I was told he was a former world straight pool champion. He played pretty good against me. Sam

Thanks for the link it's a great story and shot. I believe that Efren had bad teeth when he arrived in the U.S.. Then I remember Parica saying that Efren's bad teeth and his smoking makes him vulnerable in a long match like 21 ahead in 9 ball. Since he hasn't teeth and his health seems better.

Last year at Hollywood Billiards, Efren sent Parica to the looser's side and while waiting for the eventual rematch was being given shots of whiskey by his friends and lost to Parica in the finals.

I know Omaha Johhny was a great barbox player. Won Miller Lite Nationals couple years in a row and the tourney has plenty of pros.

I in the hell believe it. Keith Mcready, Buddy Hall, David Matlock, these are guys that are among the greatest to ever pick up a cue. I once watched David Matlock run so many racks of 8 ball that we lost count.

The one thing that makes Efren outstanding is that his tournament results are better now than when he first came here. He appears to be playing better pool in middle age. His peers in the same age groups aren't doing as well as he is. Maybe it's Efren's lifestyle that keeps him so fit on the table.

Keither is making a comeback though, don't count him out!
