Hi Melissa,

I was at the Vegas tournament and I noticed some of the women using what appeared to be chalk bags hanging from their belts. Is this a homemade item or can they be purchased from a supplier? I wanted to try and get one for my wife. Also, what was the deal with the tape that was installed in the back of the pockets just before the tounament started? Have they had to do this to any other tables besides the Connelly's?
Thanks,

J,

You can purchase those chalk holders...but I am not sure where. You might just want to try your local billiards supply. They make several different kinds of holders...little leather bags like the ones you saw...or magnetic ones.

Also, the pockets of the Connelly home tables have a tendency to spit balls out if you hit a ball hard into the back of the pocket. The foam tape that was being put at the back of the pocket was placed there to soften the back of the pocket so that balls wouldn't pop out.

With digital cameras becomin so small, I bought a small case for one and turned the flap backward into my belt and put my chalk in it - I'm not used to it yet. I find myself picking up the chalk that on the table rather than reaching into the case :)

I tried a few chalk holders and I must admit I never use them. I don't know why, I guess it's a bad habit, but now, I usually clear the table of the chalk and put out about two cubes of my own.

FWIW...

You may notice players with a snooker background (KC or AF) were keeping their chalk in a vest pocket when they first came over. Apparently in snooker it is considered bad form to leave the chalk on the table. I read this in Mike Shamos's column recently IIRC.

In snooker it's also more of a rythym killer when you notice your chaulk is on the other side of the table.
