I have been using Magic chalk for awhile and it seems that my table get so dirty, I dont chalk every shot, is this a dirty chalk? looking for recommendations on a good chalk that does not make a mess. Thanks

@Dr Dave aka Dr. Dave U-Tube Channel did what I call a comparison OF MOST CURRENT BRANDS OF POOL CHALK. Dr. Dave is a Phd, was a College Professor of Engineering. So he did his unbiased review of Chalk’s. I have faith in Dr. Dave finding because he use science, to get past the hype, and BS Marketing.

Master or Silver Cup is what I like, if you Chalk ever shot.

Can you tell me what were his top picks? Thx

There are a few brands now that are similar to Taom, which many regard as the innovator in this space.
  • Taom
  • Predator Pure
  • Kamui Roku
  • *How

The top 3 are probably the most visible in terms of corporate reputation. How is less popular in the US.

There are others that behave very similarly, without the corporate baggage, but also without a substantial discount.
  • Ghost
  • Pagulayan
  • Titlist
  • Omega Taom

I 3D print chalk holders, so I have all of these (and a bunch of other brands). After all the testing and hours of pool, I use Taom primarily. The next tier I would put Fedor's Ghost and Pagulayan tied. The others are very close behind, so it's really dealer's choice on any of these.

In terms of performance, they are all as good as each other (including the old school Master chalk).

If it was me and I was starting all over, I would just get the one on sale.

I think @dr_dave has posted at least 4 chalk videos. This might be the most recent.

I like Kamui Roku but Taom V10 is very good as well. Neither make a mess on the table.

I chalk every shot and use about half of one a year. I tend to give them away at that point and have converted a few folks that were very much against expensive chalk.

FYI, 7 videos from me and others, along with additional testing info, can be found here:

I used Magic Chalk for years. Adheres very well to the tip. And to CB. It’s messy.

I switched to (green) Taom V10. Super clean. Definitely kept my cue, hands and table cleaner. Only thing I didn’t like was that it was round and so it was easier to drop and if I did drop, it would roll away.

So when Pagulayan came out (made by Taom), I switched to that. I’m very happy.

I’ve also tried Turning Point 7500 (okay, but not as clean).

I like Dr V Titlist (not as clean but adheres really well to my break tip).

I tried snd sold cos V-10, IMHO it was more hype then GREAT CHALK, and at $20.00/Round it was over priced.

It depends what hype you’re talking about. If you mean things like “more spin” “fewer miscues” etc, then yeah it’s hype and Dr Dave’s tests show it’s meaningless if you chalk often and properly.

If you mean the hype about being way cleaner on hands, cue and table, making hardly any marks on the CB and thus causing fewer kicks/skids, then IMO that hype is justified.

Whether that’s worth it to you is up to you. But a cube of my Pagulayan lasts me over a year and I play a lot. That’s under $0.50 a week and well worth it to me.

I don’t like taom so I went back to kamui Roku but was missing the softness of the original kamui so I got the 1.21 instead of the .98 and while it’s still a little messy it’s not to bad. I clean my table once a week it’s not bad and I don’t big blue marks on the cue ball 🤷‍♂️ i do only chalk one time a rack thought.
