Chalk comparison.

Does it matter how many shots you can take before you have to rechalk? I've used them all but would never EVER in a match or game that meant something, not rechalk my tip before each shot. That being said, as long as you chalk properly, master chalk is the best bang for the buck. You will never miscue because of which chalk is on your tip. At home, I'm lazy and will shoot many times before chalkIng so I'm currently using the predator there. It leaves a noticeable amount of chalk on the cue and by extension, the table. I'll prob go through my sleeve of pred chalk and then decide to go back to masters or not. As for the pool hall, good old masters is fine enough for me.

I have heard of several attempts to create rubber tip that wouldn't require any chalk. Sounds like there may actually be a decent one on the horizon. Very interesting.

i remember maybe 10 yrs ago trying out a "new" rubber tip that did not require chalk. it worked great, but left hard to remove black marks on my cloth. not worth the cost of destroying the cloth on the table.

I agree with your point here. But, I tried Kamui briefly and using it, you actually want to avoid chalking too often because you get too much chalk on your tip. So you end up looking at your tip after each shot and saying, "time to chalk yet?" It was kind of annoying. And I felt that the amount of chalk gradually decreasing after each shot meant that there was not a consistent degree of friction from shot to shot, hence the spin I was getting was less predictable. (I don't usually believe in "it's all in your head", but in this case I will confess it might be just a mental doubt that I couldn't overcome.) It's like poolhustler said, "It's not for everybody".

You will never miscue because of which chalk is on your tip.

I don't agree with this. I feel I am using the best chalk I can find and I get a high degree of friction. With that friction I know where the miscue limit is. If I use a "lesser" chalk, there will be less friction, and that miscue limit decreases in my opinion.

I got a cube of Kamui 1.21 from a raffle last week and tried it out today. I like it, it should come in handy in the summer when the free chalk is all dried up and crusty.

I bought a five packet of predator at the sbe. Just wanted to try it. I really like it. Goes on easily and stays on a little better the master. Championship was giving away their chalk at the sbe. I took a few cubes. Like this also. Don't like the green championship. Very messy. The blue seems to stay on the tip nicely.
I have never tried kamui. Too expensive. I do like their tips. If I had to choose one chalk I would go with Predator. I have tried BD. I don't see much difference from master.

Kamui

Messiest:
Predator
Masters
Blue Diamond
Kamui .98

Grabbiest:
Kamui .98
Predator
Blue Diamond
Masters

Those are just the ones I've used. For me the mess was a big consideration. I'm a messy chalker. I have to wear dark shirts when I play. Not with Kamui. I also feel that it's got the best friction. I don't have to worry about where my limits are for extreme english. They hardly exist. It does stick to to the cue ball some and gets on the table, but nothing like any other chalk out there. A cube lasts at least a thousand games of pool, maybe a few thousand. That's a cent or two a game. That's just not a good place to save a few cents, in my opinion. I would buy it at twice the price, but don't tell Kamui.

If I had to choose one of the inferior chalks, I would choose predator and wear dark shirts. It does almost as good as far as friction goes.

I recently started using predator chalk and i'm a fan of it. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the shape. It feels weird in your hand when you first start using it. It seems to stick to the cue ball more than masters, but it also seems to stick on the tip longer.

I am so used to Predator chalk now, that when I go back to Masters for a while, it feels like a big block in my hand. So after a while, I actually like the size of it. But yes, at first, it feels weird. But so does Masters when you go back to it after a long period with the Predator.

Go to Seybert's, purchase a piece/package of all the chalk mentioned. Add Balabushka to that list, didn't see very many mention it. Take the chalk you purchased and do your own comparison. I have found that Balabushka is the best chalk...for me. I also use Kamui, and keep them both in my case. But when cost comes into play, I'm thrilled with the Balabushka. I tried Predator, BD, Masters and Triangle...Balabushka won in the tests I used.
