Chalk stained cueball

I just bought a set of Aramith's with the measles cueball. I cannot get the chalk marks off the cueball. I am using master blue chalk. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anyway I can get it off? I've tried water, oxy clean, the ball cleaner that comes with the set and nothing works. Please help.

the ball is larger too isnt it?

Earl Strickland was at the Florida Tour tournament this weekend and he was really complaining about how the ball was bigger, chalk always sticks to it, that aramith ought to fix that and how it was a joke that this ball was not the ball being used at tournaments. Of course, that is Earl and he always seems to be complaining about something. I was watching a straight pool match on accustats the other day and Earl was complaining that the referee moved the cueball. It sure didnt look like the ref touched the ball but Earl was really pissed about it.

I have the same problem, sort of. I noticed right after I got the ball that the blue Master chalk left blue marks on the ball. I happened to have some green Silver Cup chalk and used that for a few months with no problems (and no green marks on the ball). A couple of weeks ago, I switched back to the blue since it seems to stay on the cue tip longer and now I have blue marks on the ball again. If you have any metal polish or car paint polish, that should do the trick. If you want a permanent solution, switch chalk brands. I found that the blue marks eventually went away after a few cleanings and using the different brand of chalk.

The best thing for getting marks off the balls is a Magic Eraser from Mr Clean. Works like a charm... guaranteed.

It works so good, it may even take off the "measles" as well!! Be careful! LOL!!

The quickest way to get rid of blue balls is to take a cold shower :D

Well I don't want to get rid of the measles so I guess I'll try a cold shower.

The cueball isn't actually any bigger, it just looks like it because of the shine and the dots. Optical illusion.

Every good player I know seems to complain about it, but I agree they are not bigger, they just seem that way.

I also agree they pick up marks of all kinds far too easily, and this is weird because I have a standard Aramith Red Circle that is much better than the "top of the line" Pro Cup balls in staying clean, and also in how easy it is to clean any marks off it does get.

mnShooter - To answer your original specific question: DO NOT put your balls in the dishwasher unless you like buying a new set every couple of of months.

The Hamster's suggestion of a Mr Magic eraser pad is certainly the most effective cleaning method I've tried to date. I've also tried the Aramith Ball Cleaning fluid and it seems to be of limited value. BUT - The Mr. Magic pads are fairly new on the market and apparently contain an alchohol-based solvent of some kind. It is possible long-term use of this may strip the finish, so be aware of this. (Then again the Aramith fluid is noticable abrasive.)
