Sorry, but I don't have the answers you're looking for. Then again, if I did you really shouldn't just take my word for it. If you are unsatisfied with your current chalk, I encourage you to try every different chalk you can get your hands on. There's bound to be something out there you'll like.

To answer your question in my own smart-alecky way:

What's the difference? Well, it's like the difference between Coke and Pepsi. They look the same, they do they same job, you'll never find out *exactly* what ingredients they each have inside, and some people swear by Coke while others love Pepsi.

The interesting question is this: If a new brand of cola came on the market, was priced over 100 times more expensive than the leading competitor, did the SAME EXACT THING that the other colas do but for some odd reason purported to be better, and garnered large numbers of zombie-like followers that belittled Coke and Pepsi drinkers, would you switch?

I've been using brand "M" chalk my entire life for 2 reasons:
(1) 99% of the time, it's the only chalk I ever see on a pool table. And I've been all over this country playing pool: Bars, pool halls, state and national tournaments, amateur and pro events. Everywhere I go, there's brand "M" chalk for *free* just sitting on the rail of every pool table.
(2) I've never even thought of buying a different brand of chalk because brand "M" does it's job perfectly. Far too many players refuse to believe that miscues are the fault of their bad stroke. It can't possibly be their fault. It must be the fault of their tip or chalk. If only someone would make a fancy non-miscuing tip, or invent a magical cube of chalk. Then they could forgo the years of practice required to develop a good stroke, and they'd finally become the champion of the world!

(No, I'm not ripping on you because you asked about chalk. Again, try all the different chalks you can. I'm ripping on the die-hard chalk aficionados.)

i'm just looking for what ever knowledge may be out there.i"m a cue builder/repairman and sell some accessories,i get ask several times about the chalk differences.i"ve played with several of the brands over time and in different atmospheres, which i feel is the best way to evalluate a product.but it"s like tips if i did that with them,i spend the next 10 years doing so.the next solution is asking others what they think.the most accurate desciption i can give my customers of a product is from my own experience, beyond that it"s what others tell me.thanx to az and its members for the knowledge that has been passed on that helps us all become a little better at what we do,for a game that we are passionate about, and enjoy.

If I was searching for this information I believe I would ask the Billiard room owners who have rooms opened fow 3 years and longer throughout the USA. We know they are not putting $30.00 cubes of chalk on the table but they can't afford to use chalk that does not work in their area as they would lose players and have to shut down.

I could be wrong but new chalk directly shipped that stays in a contorled enviroment will work the same every where. I am in Florida it is Summer, rainy season, high humidity. My case that holds my cue does not go in my trunk, it rides in the climate controled part of my car. If I need to go in somewhere other than a quick stop to a convieniance store my case comes in with me.

To me its how you treat your weapon and accessories and climate you leave them in. This however is just one guys opinion.

I have used Masters chalk for years...I have a few boxes of pre-flag blue chalk that I know are from the sixties, as I aquired them from a good friend who bought his Brunswick table in the early sixties and never used the boxes of Masters blue that came with the table, so he gave them to me a few years ago. I use Blue Diamond when I can get it, I also have a gross (144) case of original blue Triangle chalk from 1963 that I sometimes use, I know its from that era as the box has the original receipt inside. All in all...I prefer the older Masters blue, I do like the Blue Diamond. Never tried the Cosmo or Russian chalk and refuse to spend the money for the Kamui chalk.
