Chalking just the outer edges of tip

Been doing this for a while now - I use Kamui chalk and it seems like there are a bunch of advantages to just chalking the outer edges:

Less Chalk on the table
Uses less chalk
Less Chalk on cue ball (hit a center ball with Kamui and you will leave a big chalk mark on the cue ball)
Less skids due to less chalk on cue ball

When you hit center ball it seems to me you don't need chalk on the center of the tip and only need chalk to increase friction between the cue ball and tip on outer edge shots on the cue ball.

Am I missing antyhing?

I guess it makes sense, but just seems like extra work to make sure you are only chalking the edges.

For practicing too..

I find it helps to sometimes just wipe the tip clean and practice certain shots when you NEED to hit center ball. Like cuts along the rail most players tend to always use helping english but sometimes you have to hit it with a center ball to have the cue ball come straight across the table to avoid scratching. Its hard to do if your used to always using english. Long straight in shots with just center ball and even breaking with a "flat" ball (when your hitting it straight into the head ball).

Mostly Kamui

Because it seems to leave an excessive amount of chalk on the cue ball (although it will work with all other types of chalks).

Who would have guessed one can overthink the act of chalking?

Meanwhile, I make sure I don't blink more than 5 times between shots to keep my eyes sharp.

Pool Players overthinking?

Glad you missed the penny, nickel, dime diameter discussions of the 1970's. They were a hoot! It was an overthinkers orgy of back and forth!! The Flat Tip Society was protesting outside.

I had a great idea just like yours, ONCE, but I forgot about it.
I would advise the same !

If it happens again, see a DOCTOR, immediately !!!
Or just switch to Master chalk.

Why even use Kamui if it gets all over the CB...and it does bigtime. My wife bought me a few cubes when it first came out. She thought I was just too cheap to buy it. The chalk sucks. I know Kamui sponsors a lot of players, tournaments, and streams, but come on, get real, $35 for blue lipstick is a bit over the top. JT

Chalking

It has been my experience, if you don't chalk your tip regularly, this is what causing your tip to "glaze" over. The chalk protects this from happening, IMO.

That is 100% correct. Next time you see some banger use a house cue W/O chalking it for an hour, take a look at it after he puts the cue back in the rack. Most likely it won't take chalk until rough it up a lot. JT
