The confusion appears to be in the drawing, there are four long sides and four short sides. 8 sides in total but not all equal in length.
Definitely an octagon, but not an equilateral one.
Now the question is, was it the mechanical drawing artist that made the error or was the chalk actually made like this? To prevent roll-a-ways maybe? As predator chalk is an equilateral octagon which rolls easily with equal sides.
