International Challenge Of Champions
Winner-Take-All For $50,000 August 8-9, 2007

Billiards champions from around the world will go head-to-head in the Seventeenth Annual INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS. The winner-take-all $50,000 event will be held Wednesday, August 8th and Thursday 9th at the Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, CT.

The Challenge of Champions is widely considered the toughest tournament to win in professional billiards. Once each year eight international champions are brought together in a sudden-death shootout with a pressure-cooker format of winner-take-all for $50,000 and the winner claims one of the most coveted titles in pool - Champion of Champions.

The 2007 field includes Johnny Archer (USA), Ronnie Alcano (Philippines), Lee Vann Corteza (Philippines), Yang Ching-Shun (Taiwan), Ralf Souquet (Germany), Thorsten Hohmann (Germany), Niels Feijen (Holland) and John Schmidt (USA).

Mohegan Sun Casino, the host site, will make the 2007 event ADMISSION FREE to pool fans from around the USA and the world. The event drew such large crowds last year at Mohegan Sun that it was standing-room-only attendance. There will be four playing sessions in the two-day international tournament. On Wednesday, August 8th, the quarterfinal rounds will be played at 4 PM and 7 PM, with two matches in each session. On Thursday, August 9th, the two semifinals will be played at 4 PM and the final Championship match will be played at 7 PM. The semifinals and the final match will be taped for airing on ESPN.

The INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS is regarded as the supreme test of skill in professional billiards. The eight players are so evenly matched that any one player could beat the other seven on a given day. In addition, the tournament format is the most demanding test of 9-Ball skill in the sport. The matches are two sets, race to five games each set, with a 1-game sudden death tie-breaker in the event of tied sets. The 9-ball does not count on the break, and to win a game, the 9-ball is call shot. The caliber of competition is so intense that a single mistake invariably eliminates a player from any chance at the winner-take-all purse of $50,000.

In the 2006 Championship match, Johnny Archer and Thorsten Hohmann played a 1-game sudden death for $50,000 and the Champion of Champions title.

The 2007 tournament will be the Seventeenth Annual event, and has been televised on ESPN in each of the last Seventeen years. Those attending should arrive early for each tournament session. Make plans today to attend the 2007 INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS. For information call the Mohegan Sun toll free at 1-888-226-7711, Ext. 7163.

challenge of champions

Just got back from last match. Archer win close first set by out safing, out kicking and out jumping Yang.
In the second set Archer got rolling like a train and won 5 to 0.
One of the most amazing matches i have ever seen.

Results of First Day @ ICOC

Niels Feijen Won against John Schmidt 5-3 and 5-4

Lee Van Corteza Won against Ralf Souquet 5-2 and 5-1
Lee was strong - Ralf suffered on the break

Thorsten Hohmann Won against Ronnie Alcano 5-3 and 5-4
Good Match - Ronnie had a major scratch in corner pocket that probably cost him the first match.
Johnny Archer Won against Ching Shun Yang 5-4 and 5-0
Johnny shot great.. Yang made mistakes in the first set that cost him.
Second set Yang was dry on break and Johnny shot lights out

Thursday Matches will be
Feijen vs Archer and Corteza vs Hohmann

For LuckyLady

Johnny did not out kick Yang.
Johnny did not kick to much in the set it was Yang kicking and Johnny jumping.

Johnny Archer hit every jump shot well.. Yang is praised at being a great jumper.. He played one jump really bad.
Yang did kick like a pro. He Kicked safe alot - Johnny replied with a Jump safe.
(or he got away with it) Yang should have won the first set 5-1 he did not punish Johnny and paid the price
In the second set Yang could do know right.
Johnny was flawless.. I do not think he missed a ball. And won 5-0
