Many billiard facilities use Mercury Ultra on theit valley tables. Has anyone played on the Ultra worsted cloth yet? Looking for a review. Considering recovering my home table with it.

Check with championship again, but I don't recall them making any Mercury Ultra worsted cloth.

The local pool hall where I cover the tables has used championship cloth for years. It plays similar to Simonis but is far more durable. I play on it all the time and and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Don't like it. Stay away from it. Simonis is the only way to go. English plays completely different. Every time i play on championship I have to dumb down my game. No spin, all center ball controlling speed.

It just does not make sense to me to try to save a buck on cloth. Simonis must be the most popular, its lasts long, & most people seem to like it. If you put cloth on the table and you find out you made a mistake now you are out all that money and still need to buy the more expensive cloth to fix the problem.

I asked Jerimy Chambers (well known Chicago-area mechanic) about it when he was recovering our community center table with Simonis. His take was that Championship didn't "show" the wear as much as Simonis does, but that it's actually wearing out more, i.e. the wear is there, you just don't see it as much.

I would get whatever you play on the most, might as well get use to the playing conditions.

Most valleys have Championship on it, and it's fine. I mean, it's a bar box, how good does it need to be. That being said, I do have Simonis on my 9 footer at home.... but you won't go wrong with the alternative....

You know how many state and natl tourneys are playing on cloth that is NOT Simonis..... most of them.

There is nothing wrong with any of the Championship cloths. I've had everyone of them on one or the other Valley's I've had. If the mechanic installs it right and the table/slate is good and table level, it plays very well. The only reason everyone says Somonis is the best is because they are cloth sponsors for most tournaments in the states abd peer pressure. Lets not forget the all important it cost more, so it must be the best. Johnnyt

Which Championship cloth did you play on? There are several lines. I assume you are referring to Mercury Ultra? I am interested in opinions on the new Ultra Worsted.
While Simonis is arguably a better quality cloth, there is no one in my area that puts it on their tables. Maybe I should use Mercury Ultra. It is what most tables in my area have. As Chicago RJ said, practice on what you play on.

I currently have Championship Titan on my table. It plays excellent. Since I can't afford to have it done, I install my own cloth. Did a good job too. But I'm afraid to try the Simonis on my own. As you said, would be a very expensive mistake if I try to install Simonis and screw it up. I'm confident I can work the Championship but not sure about the Ultra Worsted. Thats why I'm asking all of you on AZ about it. Maybe I should ask on the Ask The Table Mechanic section?

Lol. I hear ya. And I agree. I do like the way Simonis plays. My brother has it on his table. I'm just afraid to try to work it myself.

Hello all,

I was at the headquarters of championships billiard fabric a few months ago and they had introduced the worsted ultra.

I personally have not used it.. There was a few guys from this forum in attendance at championship, perhaps they have used or installed the ultra worsted and know how it plays or what they think of it.

Yeah, I was forced to put my own bed cloth on, I would rather have paid someone to do it but I could not find anyone local I trusted to do a good job. I was very, very concerned about screwing up a $300.00 piece of cloth!!
