Not to discredit Chang Yu-Lung, in my opinion, the magic rack is killing the game.
I am seeing more controlled breaks from pros which leads to more break and runs as the magic rack practically guarantees the wing ball in.
My 2 cents only, please do not flame me.
I agree. A 9-pack is not that impressive with the use of a magic rack. There are many players that have strung together more racks than that using the magic rack.
In a way, the magic rack kind of turns the game into that old time sucker bet where a player gets all the breaks and ball in hand after the break, and if the opponent sinks a single ball, they win. In other words, it takes the break out of the game, and it just becomes a contest of how well can a player run 8 or less balls in rotation on a 9-foot table. It's not as easy as that bet, because there's no BIH, so the whole skill isn't making a ball (thanks to the magic rack, a novice can make a ball every time), it's controlling the CB. For pro-speed players using the magic rack, that's not a big issue.
Thus, a 9-pack isn't really that big of a deal.
