changin tips

soon i ll receive a ob-1 shaft that i ve ordered a bit ago (hope so, lol). i really changed tips a hundreds of times the oldschool way. but for the future...the ob-1 has no normal ferrule- i think here the best way should be to let it being made by a cuemaker? or does someone have a tip/idea to change even on such a shaft a leather without expensive machines?

It's worth it to have an experienced repairman to do the work, You will void the warranty if you mess the pad or the ferrrule up. I do tips and ferrules myself on my lathe and I dont touch the OB shafts , cause It's different from what I worked on before, If I was trained to do it I would attempt it, But Like I said you don't know what you are doing you will void the warranty..<<<ED

Any experienced cue repair or cue maker should be able to handle the job. They will want to face off the carbon fiber pad with out removing too much material. I do believe that Royce at OB sells he pad if it does need to be replaced. Other than that it should be like replacing any other tip. Of course the best results comes from the best experiance and equipment. Oh, and if it matteres, I like the Kamui soft on my OB-2.

It is best changed with a lathe and when the old tip is trmmed off,do not trim the carbon pad,but leave a small amount of either the existing clue or glue and tip.
The carbon pad is quite thin and structurally will be weakend if it is trimmed.

Replacing the tips on our cue shafts is really very easy. It is practically the same as conventional shafts except for one small detail. Basically, you treat the pad as if it was the end of the ferrule on a conventional shaft. We have some instructions on our website, www.obcues.com/carerepair.html

As for the warranty, improper repair won't "void" the warranty. Obviously, is there is damage to one of our shafts caused by improper repair or maintenance, then that repair would not be covered by the warranty. If the cue shaft had some other issue that was a defect then it would be covered.

And yes, the pads are available from us, just give us a call. Make sure that you don't replace our pad with a traditional vulcanized fiber pad. This will most likely cause the ferrule to fail. Our pads are Carbon Fiber. The Carbon fiber has the tensile strength needed for our construction.
