Changing equipment at start of match.

An APA match my oppenent took the red dot cue ball off the table and took his measel ball out. I told him I wanted to use the ball the poolhall provided, he says it's his choice since he is home team. I held my ground , he called the league operator who said he was right. Has anyone else run into this? This can not be right. I can't find anything in writing about it.

It could be a local by law. I am not sure what the rule is in our area regarding your situation but I do know that if your opponent wants to use a different cue ball or rack ie magic rack and you agree our rule here is your opponent has to let you use his equipment also.

I don't know what the rule is if you dont allow him to use it.

And there's your sign.

I believe the rule here is home team has say so on cue balls. And also has option to replace all the balls if have enough for all tables in that match. We have had a couple teams show up with 3 sets of new balls on double jeperty night.

I’d say he’s right. He’s home team, so whatever home field is ... is.

This subject came up with my LO at States this weekend, talking about the different rule changes and such. He pointed out that the language in the new manual didn't specifically make it clear that it was the home teams choice of tables, etc. But that he intended fully for that to be the case and would have it in the bylaws, so that there was a "home filed" advantage.

Not having read the new manual, take that for what you will. But that's how we play it here.

Was that cue ball his own personal cue ball? I would think that same cue ball would have to be used for all matches before and after your match that night. It doesn't seem right that he could just pull it out to use for his match and then put it away. Yet another example of what I don't like about APA league pool.

If you are both forced to use the same equipment I would think you both have to agree to the change. Of-course common sense has not bearing on the official ruling LOL

Just tell them when it's you shot, you will replace their cueball with the original one to shoot with.

If it was something like a rack that you can use one you like and they can use another one, sure. Chalk same thing. Cueball and even the full ball set, if you don't both agree on it, and it is not what the poolhall has, would be a very shitty rule to force someone to use equipment they don't want to. It's not like the pool hall was missing a cueball.

Remind them sets are usually matched to each other weight wise, so there could be a big difference

Like many topics, this one isn't covered in the team manual. It is typically a local bylaw. It can range a lot. In my opinion, the home team should declare what cueball will be in use at the beginning of the session, and that should be the ball used there every single time.

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to beat a team when they are pulling these sorts of moves.

As a general rule, if they need to use a special cue ball, they can't beat me, so I don't worry about it.

In a 9ball APA session we traveled to the host location. They had the infamous oversized cue balls and refused to play with a standard sized ball.

“We’re the Home team, it’s our call”. Absurd, and a total move.

So who won the match?

Yes his cue ball. Took it out when he got there 5 minutes before match started. If it was there to practice with I wouldn't have cared.

We are both 9's....I crushed him 18-2. The whole time he was calling me lucky, said I shouldn't be a 9 because I'm a banger. I was hitting hard, anger does that. It was fun.
