Changing shaft taper - looking for someone local...

I just received a new cue that has real thick shafts and I would like to have them turned down and re-tapered. I am in the NYC area and would like to have it done local so I do not have to ship them out - does anyone know of any really reputable people in the NYC area to do this? Any idea of costs?

I've been shooting with a Jerry Franklin Southwest for years and would like to match this Southwest taper to the 2 shafts of the new cue.

I can't help you with the "who in NYC" part, but I charge $25 for a re-taper.

Try Rolando Aravena at the Amsterdam Billiard Club, 212-496-8180. He does nice stick work. Best chance to get hold of him would be either Thursday or Friday evening.

whatever you do,,,do a VERY thorough search, and find someone well equipped. most shafts have at least a tiny bit of warp, and this will screw up the retapers because the shaft would wobble on the lathe.

i sent a PERFECT(according to southwest) shaft to sw themselves, and even they screwed up my retaper.

start by looking for someone with years of experience and reputation. i can't think of anyone in the nyc area that fits this criteria.

If you consider Clifton, NJ part of the nyc area, I would highly recommend Paul Fanelli.
