Charlie Williams

I've got the goat over Charlie Williams decision to play for Korea in his Dragon Promotions event. He represented the USA last year and now Korea this year. I don't know if he has dual nationality or not, but this should not give the right to pick and choose who to play for.

In most sports, players wishing to change their allegiance must complete a qualification period of at least 3 years.

I don't believe that a player should be allowed to compete for more than one country at a time, irrespective of ancestry. Personally, I could compete for 4 different countries through ancestral rules, but choose to only represent one.

What do other players think of this?

hi,
Those rules apply to the sports that are recognized by the olympic committee.
In pool there is not a single organization that has legitimate authority to slect a National team. When pool is given entry into olympics then a national organization will be formed that will be entrusted with the authority of deciding who will represent a country.Till then it is catch as catch can.

Yeah, you should only represent one country at a time, regardless if you have dual citizenship or not. I agree, i have problems with CW representing Korea.

Alex P. represented Canada when he won the 2004 WPC, although I'm sure he would have killed to represent the Philippines.

I think Charlie's going to do what Charlie wants to do. To put himself in the best position possible to make the most profit. Im not saying its bad or good. Im not judging him. But this is the way of some.

I'm forming a selection committee for next year's team from Ireland; so far, I've got: Shawn Putnam, Johnny Archer, Danny Harriman, Denis Hatch, Keith McCready, Tommy Kennedy, and Terry McGaha. I'm sure there are plenty more, but this is a pretty good start. Go grrrrrrrreen!

North Korea or South Korea?

What does the WPA and APPBA say about it?

If he does then his passport will be revoked and he will not be allowed back in the USA.

Oh, that will only happen if the Korean team wins.

Actually, who cares? It is just a fun invitational match to make some money.

I have to say I aaaaaaaaaa....aggggggg.......agrrrrrrrrrr............arge.....with Jake! (damn couldn't say it!)

I think that its more for marketing reasons, Charlie is quite well known in Korea from doing well in his televised DP events. I imagine also that the Korean team apart from yeoung (sp?) is quite short of stars compared to the US.

Its just an invitational, its not like its an official event like the upcoming world team cup.

i just wanted to say this about Charlie, since i didn't get to in the earlier threads about Charlie, i just love his stroke, that three strokes pause three strokes love that about him, with that being sad i have nothing else to say lol.

I guess that is when he changes his name back to Heoun Ho KIM.

I can understand losing the "Heon Ho" bit, but how does Kim translate into WILLIAMS? I find that move completely assinine, but I guess that's a different thread.

-Roger (did he take on the monikor KOREAN dragon before or after he legally changed his name? From now on I'm calling him Heoun Ho.)

charlie williams is a jerk off who cant really beat any of the top pros. when is the last time he placed well in a big tourney???????

I know I will catch some hell for saying this, but Charlie Williams will go where ever he will get paid more!

I'd rather see him playing for Korea, and in Korea! Perminantly! He'll never be a world class player but he manages to get spots on our US teams, when much more deserving players are left out! Not to mention how he's screwed up the Men's pro tour! Let him play for anyone but the US, it's only to our advantage!

just more hot air!

I wonder if CW will represent Europe in the next Mosconi Cup!

I think that is a bit of a stretch but i wouldnt count out good buddy Jung Hwa Jeong spending 2 nites in a motel 6 in Orlando and then making the Patriot Cup Team.

But in all seriousness, you have to remember CW created these events and he isnt going to sit them out.
