I may be the last to know but I just discovered nonprescription bifocal safety glasses with zero magnification in the top and the bifocal area in whatever strength reading glasses you need.
I usually have on reading glasses in my shop to see dials. They don't give good eye protection plus everything except up close is blurry. Early testing of these bifocal glasses I just found is very positive, I just have to get in the habit of turning my eyes down instead of bending my neck. 1x is very slight magnification and all that I need.
These below are the lightweight wrap around glasses that give excellent protection from flying chips. Many more styles are available but I have used this style in regular safety glasses for years in clear and tinted versions for working in the shop and driving. I wear shades on long trips even at night and the wrap around glasses protect from headlights flashing into your eyes from the side.
If you are constantly taking reading glasses on and off to work and walk around your shop these might be worth a try. At six dollars a pop I bought the three lens shades offered. I scratch up my glasses all the time so the price is very nice.
