I'm planning a trip to Chicago in June and I would like to know if there are any local tournaments anyone can recommend. Any help will not go unappreciated.

At Chris's Billiards there's a handicapped 9 ball tournament on Sunday evenings, 7 PM warmup, starts at 8, but often a bit later. $8 entry fee, usually has 25 or more players, some of whom are really good. Also Chris's has an 8 ball tournament on Wednesdays, same time, race to 2, double elimination I think, entry is $10. Smaller turnout.

At the Chicago Billiard Cafe there's a prety strong Thursday night handicapped 9 ball tournament. Warmup is 7:30PM, starts at 8. Money added by management. Entry is $20. Turnout is usually quite good, 25 or more players.

Chris's II in DesPlaines has a handicapped 9 ball tournament on Monday nights, $15 entry fee. 7PM warmup, starts at 8.

There are others; these are the ones that come to mind.

Is Chris' Sunday at noon tournament no more? Also, doesn't the Billiard Cafe have a Thursday tournament?

Does anyone know if Marie's is still open? I bought my first real cue there in '97 I believe it was on west 45th or 47th. Looked like a nice enough place.

Downers Grove

Steve:

If you get south of the city, The Green Room in Downers Grove is a really nice room. Was in there last week and the equipment was every bit as good as it was on my last visit, five years previous. Sam pool tables and two Kim Steel 3C tables. Adrian Viguera often plays there. There are handicapped tournaments on Tue & Wed nights. Have fun in the Windy City.

Adios,

Pizza Bob
