Chicago Pool Rooms

While visiting family last mth, WI/IL I went with a friend to Red Shoes. Nice room, black room, fun people, engaging. Run by John Levine/white guy. This room is GREAT. The people, equipment, laughter, the back and forth of real pool room life is ''there''. It's a one pocket room, and even the very weak players shoot the right shots. Safe, ground level and fooderies and grocery store right there.

Old School Pool Room....be a sad day for Chi Town if this place ever closes. I like it allot better than Chris's.

The name of the owner is John Lavin.

Having played there many times I can say that it is not a black room, nor a white room. Plenty of players from many different cultures frequent the joint. Probably the only color that really matters at Red Shoes is green -- your dough : -)

That’s what I love about Red Shoes!!

I’m from Ca so clearly I can’t bank like anyone in Chicago who plays my speed. California players suck at banks-just a fact.

All the different cultures in Red Shoes is what makes it fun, I joke around about being a white guy from Ca making fun of myself-and it’s funny. Because it’s done with respect, love and humor. Not a knock.

Jointed Cue in Sacramento in the Mid 80’s we used to call Culture Club, back when Boy George was a thing. We had every race of person in that room, we all got along-was family. Nobody got mad at anyone. Unless the occasional coke dealer had a problem. But us pool players and gamblers had fun. Racism? What’s that!?!? Not in my world. I remember one night a guy called me “Captain White” I never laughed so hard, I busted him that night just before. All lobe and respect-he cracked me real good-I thought I was good at pitching quarters, I got schooled and almost broke…….good times.

And, John insists customers pull their pants up.

If the OP is going to be in the downtown area, I suggest Chicago Billiards Cafe, just south of Grand Ave. And east of Halsted. Tables are well taken care of and food is good.
