China made cues

What is the top Chinese made production cue? Are there lots of cue makers in China or a few big factories that will make anything to spec? How do they compare for price and quality against other manufacturers?

ummmmm..................really??
buy a predator shaft, pool's premier company, and if you happen to receive it straight, see how long it takes to warp. than find a 15 year old pre-cat, that is american made and dead straight still.

unless you're starting a brand??

I have been told by a very respectable source that very soon you are going to see a major shift in quality from China on the cue front.

As you know I am not a fan but US makers better get a handle on it now.

I see the buy American flag going up very fast.

Just to give you an idea of the Chinese market (manufacturers & retailers), there are 500 vendors at their Billiard Show each year. I think the BCA has about a 100 vendors. Myself, I am partial to goods made in the USA

My Chinese made Lucasi is 6 years old and the finish still looks good and it is as straight as a pool cue can be.
And I only paid $250 for it.

A shift in better quality or worse?

I am definitely partial to American-made cues (e.g. I have two Noel Mendoza-made Schuler cues, a Joss, a Viking, a 30-year-old Mali [before Mali off-shored], and a couple others).

But I have to tell you, that I'm really impressed with the quality in Fury cues. I have a Fury NR-8, and it's one of my favorite "beat around" players. The attention to detail, the balance, the hit, and just in general, that "feel" that you're holding a quality cue.

I just also say that measureman's Lucasi has that same feel. Lucasi and Fury would definitely be on my list of quality Chinese-made cues.

I agree, Bruce. Your Lucasi just has that magic feel to it. And, like you, my Fury NR-8 retailed for just slightly higher, but is well worth every cent.

The Chinese are capable of build quality, and Apple Computer is an example of an American Company that use China as it major supplier.

Problem with Cues made in WET PLACES like China, Philippines, if they are not built in climate controlled shops, they come to places like Arizona and WARP faster than dog doo dries out on a hot day.

Heard a rumor that a very well know US Cue maker who was at one time was an ACA Member when over to China for a while for BIG BUCKS to teach a certain Chinese factor his secrets of Cuemaking.

China is where Japan was maybe 15 years ago with product quality, and is catching up fast now.

I suspect 90% of Chinese-made cues for the Western market are via contract manufacturing. A good contract manufacturer (China has some great contract manufacturers) can make make anything you're willing to pay for. You spec everything: materials, finishes, number of times a shaft is turned and wait-time between turnings, etc.

If a cue company is distributing low quality Chinese-made cues, it's because that's what they spec'd. They cut corners to save money.

Well, I like my Lucasi as much as my McDermott. However my McDermott Gcore shaft has a slight wobble and my Lucasi Zero Flex Slim shaft is straight as can be.

I liken the Chinese to Japan after WWII. Yeah, I know many are much younger than myself, but after the war Japanese quality was absolutely horrible. If you bought something from Japan you would be lucky if it lasted a week. Now all you have to do is look at the auto industry to see their quality is vastly improved. I would bet the Chinese are now on the same track. They will focus on quality to try and get more market share.

As far as cues, I don't know about them as I've only purchased them locally here in Pearland, Texas made by an individual.

Buy USA

I always try to buy American made products. That being said, with all the parts that get out sourced for almost every product it is almost impossible to buy strictly American made products. I really try to avoid China and Mexico products. They are not our friends and their governments are ruining this country and our sorry and corrupt leaders are letting it happen. They are laughing their butts off and getting filthy rich while exploiting their own people while they spy and steal technology from us and allow criminals to cross our unsecured borders. Come to terms with this, every person that comes into our country illegally is a criminal by definition, no matter what the reason was for coming to our country. Corrupt American unions also cause us many problems. Any way, the good old USA has the smartest and most skilled workers in the world and there are plenty of tried and true American cue and cue case and pool products if you want good quality. I just received 4 Black Kamui tips in the mail.........

It was Bill Stroud. He told me he spent several years there teaching them how to make cues. He told me Lucasi builds a great cue.
My Lucasi in the very dry mile high air has not been subject to any warping at all.
I think the Chinese factories are more climate controlled then the Philippine cue makers are.

I am old enough to remember those days. and what you said about poor Japanese quality is correct. But they figured it out and look at them today.
The Chinese are on the same track and when their standard of living gets to the currant Japanese level then it will all shift to India. This may take a bunch of decades but it will happen.
