 Who is this Jeffrey Ignacio? How old is he and what tier does he currently belong to in the Philippine pool hierarchy?

I looked at his progress in this competition and he beat guys like Kiamco, John Morra (who btw, eliminated Ko Pin Yi) and now has beaten the great Mika Immonen by a score of 11 to 6 after trailing 2-5 earlier on an alternate break format!!! That means he won 9 straight games to Mika's 1. Now that is strong.

also known here in Manila as jeff "baba", or jeff "pilar" or jeff "las pinas" or jeff diaz. he's got many aliases.
he was in the quartefinals of last year's Japan Open - lost to Ko Pin Yi. I can probably say he's a tier-1 player locally. he has less experience in the international scene compared to biado or Lee Van, Dennis or even Johann. i know a lot here who can beat/has beaten him. but he's a really good player especially when he's on rhythm. lot's of youtube videos of him.
i'd still pick biado 100% on later's semifinals match though.

Ok who's up in 1st semi? The 2 Changs or Biado v Ignacio?
The last 4 already assured of $10K before tax ($8K)
Winner of semi get into final and assured of minimum $20K while champ gets $40K before tax. Awesome prizemoney compared to World 9B where champ gets only $30K

The 2 Changs up first and on now.

I saw Johann Chua playing in Hanoi in April, watched both of his money games and tournament games, he was very very good. and he told me he was not playing his best, he got stuffs and had not practiced much before coming to Hanoi.

I do believe J Chua and J Ignacio is on the same level with C Biado, D Orcollo and LV Corteza now. J Chua told me he planned on coming to US this year, I am not sure about J Ignacio though.

Yu Lung Chang wins first semi over Ronglin Chang 11-4!

1st time I heard of this less famous Chang Yu Long so did bit of digging . Seems this guy won this event in 2010 and was Taiwan No. 1 few years ago so he ain't some small fry :)

They are all monsters, the format isn't in favor of anyone. In fact this format is favor more solid and experience player, you can't catch a good roll and runaway from it, you have to fight for it from be beginning till the end.
If anyone did watch the match Shane vs Wu, we can see clearly that he's not feeling confortable, that he's not showing a confidence and intimidating image like he is normally, but he put up a good fight and fortunately Wu also played poorly, he won that match well-deserved.
Absolutely no shame for Shane finished 5th in this field considering his performances in the international soil until now, be optimistic dude, isn't it one of his best performance in a tourney outside the U.S ?
Be realistic also, Shane is no.1 in the U.S but there are more than 10 in the world that at least be 50-50 against him. So just cheers for him and hope that he will do better in the W9C in Doha.
Way to go Shane, go go.

Adding to your summary:

• SVB made 94 balls to Wu's 61
• SVB had 2 misses to Wu's 6 (plus they both missed once and slopped in another ball)
• SVB had 2 fouls (one on the break and one on a kick) to Wu's 1 (on the break)
• SVB had 3 B&R's to Wu's 2

Using the magic rack (or something similar), a ball was made on the break every time.

Shane looked really stable and confidant to me. He did have a hickup hooking on the 8 ball that was a momentum changer. Wu is the one that looked timid. In fact, for the most part, Shane was teaching water how to run out. His confidently running out with ease is what put pressure on Wu.

:D

Looks like they changed up the schedule. Mens final up next then the womens final.

Hmm looks like they are playing the Men's final now in about 10 mins instead of the Women's final
Probably they want to give time for bigger crowd to watch the main event-the Women's final so they moved it to after the Men's final . The women's game just is way more piopular then the men's game in China :D

Thanks for the info, Jay. So is Carlo Biado still in tier 1? You did not include his name in your reply so I am just curious.

Now I remember hearing Jeff Ignacio's name in the interview with Efren before his TAR challenge match with SVB. Efren was asked if there are any Filipino players who have not been to the USA but are considered monsters and Jeff's name came up. If he beats Biado in the semi-finals then we have a new pool star. I hope he gets a visa to come to the USA soon.

Sorry, my error. Carlo is a Tier One player as well. He also plays even with the other top guys.
