China Open

Who trains these refs? Running all around the table, and making sure to be behind the player. It looks crowded out there, like three players and not two. On 95% of shots the ref doea not need to be out there. All that running around can shark the players. Especially when the ref on the next table gets in your way.

Some of the refs take longer to rack the balls than it took to run the entire rack!
Classic China 😂

filler won his match, but not easily. it was toe to toe for most of the match. didn't look his sharpest.

Eh, I don't mean to glaze Filler but he did win 9-3...against a 731 at best. They couldn't even spell his opponent's name right 😂

Filler had his hands full with Xhie.
7 to 7 and he lucks him safe, the opponent fouls on a jump shot.
Then he shits in the 6 going 3 rails.

The cushions on these tables are primitive....players slamming the rails and the ball acts dead.

main tv table seems reserved for matches with chinese players no matter if they're big names or not. only interesting one left is xue zhenqi, like flakeandrun says. weird sidearm/sidewrist stroke but plays fun pool

Filler just made a sick escape to prevent a 3-foul by Capito. Current score is Filler 3-1.

Robbie runs out with ball-in-hand due to another great safety. Trailing 2-3 now.

On another note, in one of Filler's previous matches, someone in the comments or live chat asked if Filler is rewearing the same shirt as yesterday.

But they have no issue with Robbie wearing the same black polo his entire career 😂 At least now he has one with a Nike checkmark on the back instead of a plain one lol

This is a strong field, but not nearly comparable to what we used to get at the China Open 9ball. Go back about 10 years and this title was every bit as hard, possibly even harder, to win than the US Open 9ball. The reason was that many of the top Asians always skipped the US Open 9ball, but they all played in the China Open 9ball (as well as the other two Asian based majors, the World 9ball and the All-Japan).

Browsing the list of China Open 9ball winners, the last eight champions were, in order, Albin Ouschan, ,Wu Jia-qing, Joshua Filler, Ko Pin-Yi, Wu Jia-qing, Joshua Filler, Joshua Filler and Wojciech Szewczyk. The first seven of them were WPA World 9ball Champions and the eighth was a World 10ball Champion. Some of the game's greatest superstars never got over the finish line at this very stiff test of cueing.

This title was always the domain of the game's super-elite and it's a shame to see it has lost some of its shine. Since Matchroom took it over in 2019, which led to a much more comprehensive internationally balanced field, the US Open 9ball has, slowly but surely, left the China Open 9ball in the dust in terms of prestige.

The China Open is still a major title for sure, but not quite what it was. Nonetheless, good luck to all the fine players who remain in the draw.
