Chinese 8 Ball World Championship March 13-20

this tourney is a nightmare

toughest field and toughest tables in all of pool

stream was messed up for me but I caught pieces of Thorsten and Ding missing easy shots

I'm going with Darren in the finals against one of the chinese although I see Wu as a strong darkhorse

So, if I am reading the bracket correctly, here are the times for the matches, given in USA east coast time (Eastern Daylight Time):

• Round of 32 -- all 16 matches at 9:00 pm Thursday (tonight)

• Round of 16 -- 4 matches at 4:00 am Friday and 4 matches at 8:30 am Friday

• Round of 8 -- all 4 matches at 9:00 pm Friday

• Semifinals -- one match at 6:00 am Saturday and one match at 8:30 am Saturday

• Finals -- 1:00 am and 7:00 am Sunday (it's a race to 21, so looks like they have split it into two parts)

Please let me know if this is inaccurate.

Yes that is correct
EDT is 12 hours behind China time
Basically interchange am and pm and if local time is pm , deduct 1 day
So 9am 18March=EST 9pm 17March and 4pm 18March=EST4am 18March

LOL, yes that about sums up Ko's performances not only in this match but in many of his matches in last 6 months, And the irony is his breaks in most of the match were probably some of cleanest I have seen compared to some of the other players. Balls spread out nicely, no balls near the rail, open table that allowed relatively easy runouts. If he does break dry, his opponent usually runs out :D

What are some of the main strategy differences from american 8b vs chinese 8b? I've been able to watch a couple hrs worth.

Some shots are very low percentage due to the pocket angles. Outside of side pockets, banking seems almost impossible. Down the rail shots are tough tough.


Darren safety game appears superior to Ko's. Ko was too aggressive and got burned.

Chinese 8-Ball is strategically more like English 8-Ball than the US version, the pockets look tight and you need to play gentle strokes with more precision rather than cheating the pocket and using lots of spin as in US 8-Ball.

Well that's my take anyway!
