Chinese knock off Predator P3 and SP2

"Designed in USA" Taican wood makes most of the Predator cues, except LE cues and the Revo shafts.
The old 'TaiCanWoodFactory' is now Universal/Hamson and has been for some time. They make: most ADAM's, Predator(Revo shafts made in Mass.), Lucasi,Players,PureX, Dufferin, Buffalo just to name a few. Capable of making 40,000+ cues/mo.

Yes I know it changed name 🙂
Actually there was a long discussion about brands made in China years ago on the forum. At that time Taican wood had a website where they proudly told who they made cues for and basic information about the company. I posted that link on the forum and shortly after their page was gone. Could be a coincidence, but interesting timing 😉

Not sure where you shoot but it certainly does not appear that cues and cases are not a status symbol in our area.
They are a bit in our area for some people. I like customs and buy them for me. I dont show them off unless somone asks. But many are all about their production cue, talk about how their cues are better than so and sos etc. meanwhile then know jack shit, even about what they bought.

https://www.importyeti.com/supplier/hamson-international-enterprises List of some of those they do business with. All they did was change the name back then. Its still the same outfit. Nothing fishy/conspiracy going on. They'll make cues for anybody with $$ just like KaoKao, KaoFa or Weilu to name a few others. If i was to guess i'd say when ADAM, Predator and JimLucas(Cue and Case) came calling things got decidedly more professional/slick. The new plant was built around '04, about same time as name change.

It would be interesting to see the factory. I thought Weilu was a separate outfit.
I didn't imply anything fishy was going on. I just noted that very shortly after I posted their website on the forum, their website was taken down.
Their old website stated clearly who they made cues for with the logo's and everything. They also stated they make around a million cues yearly.

All of these are separate. I didn't say it was same co. What i meant was they're all just OEM builders for anyone with $$. The most recent Universal site listed who they made cues for. https://www.universal-billiard.com/index.php/index/index/index.html It does say 5,000 different models and a 2.5million cue capacity.

I cant believe all of the people that spend a fair amount on carbon shafts, they don't know why they have them or what purpose they serve but they heard somewhere that they are the best, even for a below 400 league player who doesn't use spin. I mean I get it, if you are learning and trying to improve your game I don't know of a good reason not to use a carbon, its something you will not have to adjust for in the future but once a week league players who have not improved over the last decade and don't care if they do really don't stand to gain by buying a carbon shaft. But there are certainly a lot out there who think it is the magic bullet that they are missing that is somehow holding them back.

I guess you don't play golf. That's a MULTI-BILLION $$ biz selling hi-tech shit to people who will never break 100. Pool's the same thing just on a massively smaller scale. People like nice stuff so they buy it regardless.

No wonder maple and many other hardwoods have skyrocketed in price..
That's just one factory. KaoKao is just as big and Weilu isn't far behind either. They do buy whole ships full of wood. I don't think UNIV is currently making 2mill cues/yr but the place is big enough.

chinese factories and most will have an over run of the product they are producing. some chinese will make that over run large and sell them off to someone else.

if the company is farming out their production that can and may be the case here. you could be getting a legit shaft or cue but from someone else.

does predator have their own factory or do they just put out their products to be bid on and made by someone they have little control over.

if you dont make your own product you are just a name brand for someone else that does. all you may control is the price you pay and some of the quality.

Predator has worked with Taican, now Hamson for years. If they have cues produced at other facilities in China I don't know, and I think unless someone with intimate knowledge of the production side of things in China comes on here, it's always gonna be guessing.
Viking, McDermott, Schon, Jacoby, Tiger and Pechauer does produce their cues in USA, so if your thinking about billiards has a broader view, you might want to take that into account next time you're spending money on equipment. Obviously there's a host of fine cue makers as well.

Predator's cues are made in same factory as Lucasi, Adam and a bunch more. AFAIK just the Revo's are made here.

Pool Dawg lists fifteen manufacturers that make cues in the U.S.A. and that it sells. See the cues in that list at

The list appears to only include those cues the manufacturer made here and not farmed out to foreign makers. For example, Viking cues do not include the Valhalla line. McDermott cues do not include its' Lucky or Star Cues. Predator cues only have Revo.

PoolDawg’s list:

Meucci Cues, Byhalia, Mississippi
Predator, Beverly, Massachusetts.
Jacoby Cues, Nekoosa, Wisconsin
Joss Pool Cues, Towson, Maryland
McDermott Pool Cues, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin
Pechauer Custom Cues, Green Bay Wisconsin.
PoolDawg Pool Cues, Colorado but I think they get them from a U.S.A. manufacturer
Pure X Technology, Evansville, Indiana
RJH Custom Cues, Brooklyn, NY
Schmelke Cues, Northwest Wisconsin somewhere
Schon Cues, Milwaukee, WI
Southwest Cues, Las Vegas, NV
Spartan Pool Cues, ? U.S.A
Tiger Billiards Products, Burbank, CA; PoolDawg lists their Tiger Fortis LD carbon-fiber shaft
Viking Pool Cues, Middleton, WI

for my money i will only buy an american or canadian made entirely cue.\

but for a used cheap cue for whatever reasons ( bar cue. car cue, kids cue, etc.) it may seem to make sense to buy a knockoff or junk type cue. nothing wrong with that as long as you dont expect fine results.

There are a lot of very well made cues of Asian origin. Not talking knock-offs but cues made as well as any US made stuff. I don't know of any current Canadian cues worth buying. Might be a couple custom makers i've never heard of.

The thing with the P3 is the butt, It's 30 pieces of wood laminted with a core over a core over another core. Everything has a knockoff now.

I play for me and not to impress someone with the gear I'm using.
Coos Cues don't have knockoffs. American made baby!

Predator only makes the Revo shafts here, PureX are made in China(PureX,Players and Lucasi are all names/brands owned by Cue and Case), Spartan are made in China as well. Pooldawg makes no cues themselves. You'll find more accurate info from members on here than from Pooldawg when it comes to cuemakers locales.

Are you sure PoolDawg is inaccurate in its claim that PureX and Spartan makes some cues in the U.S.?

PoolDawg makes no cue in the U.S. but it seems reasonable to believe Mr. PoolDawg's claim that it farms out production of one of its ten cues, its "Viking PoolDawg Sneaky Pete", to Viking and that Viking makes that model in the U.S. (Wisconsin?).

According to PoolDawg, it sells only one Pure X model made in the U.S. and two Spartan models made in the U.S. PoolDawg sells a lot more models from those two manufacturers and that are not listed in its "Made in U.S.A." web link: 20 models from Pure X and 16 from Spartan.

PoolDawg claims these Pure X and Spartan cues it sells are made in the U.S.:
The Pure X HXTCF2 Carbon Fiber Shaft - 12.5mm.
The Spartan Victory Carbon Fiber Pool Cue Shaft - 12.25mm and 12.75mm

In other words, Pure X, Spartan and PoolDawg appear similar to Viking, McDermott, Predator (and who else?) who farm out some or most of their production to a foreign country. Still, those companies make or farm out some of their production to be made here . The models are likely those listed in the PoolDawg link above.
