chipped finish at the joint

I have noticed that some cues have chipped finish at the joint. It seems to be more prevalent on break cues. I see this at the pool hall and also on a few used cues that have been for sale on the forum. I believe it is from the extra shock of breaking. Maybe the joint compresses a little more when you really slam a break.

My question is:

Is is necessary to round the finish at the joint a little more on break cues to prevent this or is it just a coincidence? Does the type of finish have anything to do with it?? CA is a little more brittle but I believe other finishes do it too.

thanks

Kim
