Chips in aramith premium balls within two weeks?

I got my table two weeks ago and got a set of aramith premium balls. I've probably played about 40 hours or so, and while racking tonight, I noticed that my six ball has a couple of very small chips in it. I thought it might just be dirty, but I polished it and sure enough, a few small chips.

I haven't done any really hard playing, so I'm a little confused. I thought that these balls were supposedly chip-proof :sorry:

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Unfortunately, no ball is "chip proof". The culprit could be a cloth staple, or in the case of a ball return, or plastic drop pocket table, one of the nails that are used in the pocket mounting may be sticking up. Check around all the edges in the pockets where the ball can contact, and you will probably find the source

Apparently there are fake sets of these balls being sold by less than reputable dealers. Can you post a picture of your set? Did you get them off of ebay possibly?

Yeah I will definitely take a look around the table to see what could have done that. The chip isn't huge, but you can definitely feel it when I run my finger over it.

How big of a chip do you need on the ball before it actually affects game play?

I got them from the Billiards Factory here in Austin, TX where I got my table. Everything seems to match the description of what the aramith premium balls are supposedly to look like.

ANY ball will chip. It's almost always pocket nails not driven it deep enough. At least in my experiences with this problem. You'll need to go around periodically and recheck your nails as they will sometimes work their way back out a little. Good luck!

Not so much effect on game play, but it will destroy cloth very quickly. Is the chip a groove shaped notch, or a flat crater style?

Here is a picture. My wife thinks she can get a better picture tomorrow with natural daylight, but this is as good as I can get tonight.

It doesn't really seem like a crater style so much as a groove shape.

Thanks for all the tips/info guys! Great community here!

Man that is unfortunate. Is a chip like that a danger to the cloth?

The odds are that with just that single chip, you may never notice any cloth damage. Multiple chips however, can cause abrasions that will eventually open up into holes.
