Choosing a Table - Caught on the horns of a dilemma

Thanks everyone for the input!

I also felt that the GC was over priced; and, I was concerned about the cost (and risks) to mod the pockets, move and set the table up.

And, as many of you have pointed out, I was concerned about feeling like I'd "settled" for something other than the table I wanted.

I've decided to stick with the original plan and go with the Diamond. I contacted Diamond and they suggested I go through Omega Billiards here in the Metroplex.

Thanks again for all the great advice.

Typically...a dilemma is choosing between two undesirable choices.

"a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially equally undesirable ones."

I never heard of a black gc with gold hardware.

A lot of franken-tables out there...better make sure a great mechanic does the knockdown/ move/ setup, if you go with a used table.

Shit, no matter what table you get, don't skimp on the install, imo.

I ve seen one, the black was beautiful! And the gold was a bit to much for me!

I was in your situation a few months ago. I was so close on pulling the trigger on a used GCIV. I actually bought a Diamond Professional. The wait was horrible but well worth it. Good luck with your purchase.

I just picked up a gold trimmed gc IV for $900 a couple weeks ago. A couple hundred for disassembly and moving, I'm sending the rails to Jack Zimmermann to be tuned up. I think I'll be around 3k all said and done.

Pick up the diamond, it sounds like it's your dream table

I see on Craig List what looks to me like a Diamond Professional less than three hours East of Dallas in Henderson. It looks like it is newer and in great shape. They are asking 4k, less than the GCIV!

I kind of want it myself, but I don't have room for two!
When I bought my table a few years ago I snatched up a GCI for 1250$. If I was in the market though, I'd try to get that used Diamond, even though I am a little farther away from it than you are.

Oddly enough, while I was looking for the table you found in Henderson, I found one in Flower Mound, less than an hour from me. The ad shows it to be two months old but it never turned up in any of my Craigslist searches over the past couple of months; strange.

It looks to be in good condition except for the rails. His asking price is $2,500. Price includes light (non-Diamond), balls (I already have a near new set of Super Aramith balls), house cues and wall mounted cue rack. But it needs cushion work (unspecified).

The Henderson table, if it's the same one you found, has an asking price of $4,000 and includes a Diamond table light. It's in an upstairs room.

Both look to be in great cosmetic condition but the finish on the Henderson table is more to my liking. While the Henderson table looks to be newer, it's asking price seems high to me.

Thanks for the post and info!
