I think it would be nice if guys who want to call themselves cue "builders" would actually build their own cues. I personally would not want to fix another guy's work or flaws. Most of the time the points on these blanks are uneven, the very tips of the points are missing and need to be filled or touched up...too much headache! If I were to put my name on something, it would be my own work. Somehow adding a buttcap and a few rings don't quite cut it for me.
It's just the principle of the thing to me. Not that the cues don't turn out alright most of the time, and exceptional some of the time. but come on guys, learn how to do your own points and veneers!

Yeah. Stay away from them. You don't need the headache. Leave them alone and do your own.

Like the title says....Mr Chris Byrne is a fine cue builder. Chris is not known for conversions, or component assembly (not that there is anything wrong with that type of building imo). I consider Chris a good friend, and he took this project on as a favor..There are many mighty fine "cue builders" that have done conversions past and present.....I don't think it's fair to label one as a cue builder or non cue builder just because he may do a few conversions imo...Here are some fine examples of Chris's work....enjoy![]()

Now that's what I'm talking about! Why bother with a dime-a-dozen conversion when you are capable of bigger and better things!!??

Your just dead set on flaming this thread. I am proud of the restraint shown so far by the members here concerning your obvious attempts to denegrate the work shown here.

Some folks like full splice butts.
I'll give you a quarter for a dozen conversions. As an experienced cue dealer/broker/maker/pimp I'm sure you'll jump on a 150% ROI.
PM when your ready to ship.
Thanks in advance, Adam

I have 3 of the davis blanks in my shop now that are all from the same batch. I did not buy them, they were brought to my by customers who wanted them completed. I prefer to make my own parts so I can controll the quality from start to finish.snowmon34 said:I was at Chris's shop last night, and got to see my conversion in the works.....a few more passes, and it will be ready for some paint...I decided on a white with blue spec wrap....I can't wait till this cue is finished.....what do you guys think???

The pictures Dale posted above are what I normally build. I do all my own point and veneer work. I do agree that a cuemaker should be able to make their own parts. If they can't then they are cue customizers. I personally try to just look at the quality of the work people do and look for the progression of their talent. If a guy normaly builds merry widow cues and gets a wild hair for a full splice cue I would not look down on him for buying a blank. If that same guy started pumping out fullsplices as his own work but they were not, that is another story. Chris.
Here are a few pics of the above cues when finished.

I am not set on "flaming" this thread. This is not an attack on Chris Byrne, or his work.
I saw that over 1000 people looked at this cue and was expecting to see an outstanding piece of craftsmanship.
Once I got into the thread and saw the cue, I was interested in what folks were saying and can't quite understand all the rage...(hype).
IMO, Even the greatest builders can make poor decisions while designing. It is not the cue everyone is saying it is. The ringwork is odd. Who puts a ring in the middle of the butt? Poor attempt at a Hoppe ring?? or ??
It has nothing to it that makes it stand out from the rest of the Davis Conversions that any other builder is completing.
Look at the Davis cues that numerous other builders are finishing. Some of them are very outstanding but those builders don't get half of the credit that this is getting.
Maybe a new thread should have been started for expressing this point but this cue just happened to be exactly what I have been frustrated by.
This forum seems to be a big popularity contest, not a true judge of talent or workmanship.
AGAIN, not to bash Chris Byrne or Davis Blanks independently. I'm sure he is a fine builder. Davis sells a gazillion blanks. So be it.
Absolutely no disrespect was intended against Chris. I would rather see a talented builder do his own work thats all.
* Why does Davis not finish his own stuff and sell it for a mint if it is supposed to be so valuable??
