CJ Wiley VS Efren Reyes - June 19, 2018

-update-.................

Legends just msg'd me and, YES,CJ and the GOAT(sounds like a tv show) will be playing there on the 19th. Their FB page will have info in next day or two. VIP seating will be available for sale.

I like C.J. He was run out by the "Haters", Reminds me of the abuse Trump has to take from the left wing whacko's in the media. He contributed good things to this forum. Oh well.
CJ's a great player - would love to see the CJ/Efren contest.

But he brought the animosity here on himself - by making nonsense claims about the system he was advertising and then attacking those who pointed it out.

Got to see Efren at Griff's in Las Vegas recently … great stuff. Even though this forum, for the most part, was very anti CJ I've always liked him. I used to applaud his alligator skin for taking all the abuse but he finally had enough and left. So a bunch of trolls chased off a pro who regularly contributed to the forum. Sad, just my view.

I miss some of CJ's stories....
--------------------------------------------------------------
T HAPPENED IN PITTSBURGH in 1986, back when The Color of Money, a movie about a young pool shark, had hit theaters and Carson “CJ” Wiley was himself hustling pool on the road—back when, on a moment’s notice, he would drive hundreds of miles to some backwoods dive on a trip that someone with wads of cash gambled big-time there. On that particular night, Wiley wore fake glasses and assumed one of three aliases, Mike from Indiana. His mark was the owner of a restaurant, a bearded man with receding jet-black hair who led him up a dark staircase to a private pool table on the second floor.

“And the guy is smiling this real goofy smile,” Wiley recalls today, chuckling hard before dragging deeply on a Marlboro Light. “’It’s just like in the movie,’ he says. ‘You saw the movie right?’ And I nod my head but don’t really say anything. Then he says, ‘Oh, boy, I love action. I love playing pool for money. I even love betting on other players. You saw the movie right?’ And I nod again. And we begin playing some nine ball, and I find out right away that this guy can’t play at all. I mean, not a lick. So after I’m done beating him for a few hundred, he has me play nearly everybody in the building. I end up beating his bartender, his cook, his dishwasher, five locals, and finally, the best player in town—and he staked every one of them. By the time he quit, I had him stuck for about seven thousand dollars. And he says to me, not smiling anymore, ‘You know kid, you played a lot better at the end than you did at the beginning.’ And I look him square in the eyes and say, ‘Well, you saw the movie, right?’”

And to you Patrick Johnson, I don't know how to place the "quote" from your recent post into this thread, but the instruction C. J. gives is not NONSENSE!! I have learned a lot from C. J. and my game has improved by leaps & bounds, and is still improving.

I'm talking only about his TOI system - I'm sure he has a lot to teach besides that.

There's some useful stuff in TOI, and some nonsense. You can make it work for you (obviously), but I think many readers, even those who like/use the system, want to know where the marketing and the facts part ways.

Congrats on the improvements.

The problem lies in the fact that everyone on here attacked him with the pretense it was an "aiming system". It isn't an aiming system...it is a PLAYING system.

Those that use it and know it "don't have any problem with the marketing system or the facts".

Lets not forget CJ was about the only one who would play Efren even back in the 90"s. CJ has no fear when it comes to Efren. CJ is probably only 75% of the player he once was but i believe he can still win this match. We'll see soon.

Efren is still hitting them good, but he can be beaten.

C.J. stills plays good, but he doesn't make it his only occupation, like Efren does.

I'm rooting for C.J. because I'm sure everybody considers him the "under dog".

I'm sure it will be an entertaining match.

Good luck to both.

These two had a lot of battles back in the day.

CJ was one of the few players that seemed to have Efren's number when it came to money matches, at one point CJ and his backers followed Efren around the country trying to play.

Have not heard anything about a live stream, but i am sure they will a least have some sort of Facebook live stream going.

I don't believe CJ ever beat Efren gambling, but I believe they played 3-4 times. I remember a Race to 21 for 38k. CJ got 3 on the wire at his pool hall. CJ mentioned once that ER wouldn't play a ahead set only races out of fear of CJ catching a gear and taking off. So with that said CJ may have beated ER at least once. idk

FWIW, I own the cue that C.J. is using in that photo. The photo is from the 1996 Million Dollar Challenge tournament where Earl ran 11 racks to win the Million Dollars. C.J. beat Earl in the finals.

The cue is a McDermott RS-11 and McDermott was one of the major sponsors. The cue was made for C.J. to use while McDermott was in the process of making a line of "C.J. Wiley" cues. I don't know what happened with that production, I've never seen one.

Anybody know?

Efren is getting huge support from the TX Pool fans.

The event last night at Rusty's was huge turnout and the place was packed.

This event here at Legends is completely sold out of seats.

Efren got huge standing ovation last night at Rusty's from the fans when they introduced him before the match with JJ.

OK, folks.

Somebody needs to set the record straight.

Let's hear from some people who know some more about their gambling matches.

Jay Helfert told the story of CJ following Efren around the country this was well before he opened his pool room and was a strictly a road agent.

CJ finally caught up to him and they played in Northwest, Washington or Oregon area.

I am not sure of the exact details of how they played but CJ won some kind of huge money.

They way Jay described it was a telephone book number lol

Really. Never heard that story. I would believe it though. I remember CJ having a hard time with Buddy Hall in tournaments. I can remember 3-4 times with CJ never winning when I was around. A couple of the losses were at the pool hall across the parking lot from CJ Palace. I can't ever remember it's name. Cj said he went 3 years without a gambling loss. I would like to know who ended the streak. Possibly Busty.
