Classic match Q. What cue did Nick Varner use during this match?

I saw the match because I love this era. - You could see that Earl the pearl was very young here plus he's using a Meucci....Also you can notice that here is when TV started to open its eyes on pool and 9ball evident by the ads put in the middle of the table like this, it was funny.


Here's a link, but I want someone to tell me which CUE brand nick varner was using here. It looks like Schon but I am not sure.

- Our beloved Jay Helfert appears in this video and does a trick shot!
- Buddy Hall is also in the video & looks very slim.
- Jim Rimpe is also in the video and appears too elegant.
- There are some magazine ads from the 80s which are funny to watch especially now with the internet times we live in.

Rempe was a very sharp looking dude when he was young. My John Grissim book has a shot of him playing, and you could tell the girls in the 70s would have dropped their panties at the mere sight of him.
 
Sorry I'm late to the party... I too was very curious about what cue he was using, because I'm a huge Schon fanboy, and it did look like a Schon. I watched very closely, and I disagree that it's a Joss. It seems to have the signature Schon nickel rings at the joint.

For starters your picture here sucks. ;) Nick in his prime used Joss and Falcon. No Schon in this match but a Joss as stated earlier.

This was done with no gimmicks, an ordinary rack and balls, no divots or marks on any of them. I had exactly one chance to get it right. They did not have time for me to set it up again if I failed. Just to get all the balls in place and balanced is a trick in itself!

Don't forget that for a run in the 90s (around 92-95) he won some majors with a Meucci! You can watch him beat Archer to win the Sands Regency while playing with Meucci.

I believe my facts are in order when I share that in 1981 Nick won his first world title with a plain jain, big pin TAD cue. From about 82-91 Nick played with JOSS cues exclusively. Around 91'ish he switched to FALCON for a few years. Then he became a Meucci player for about a four year span only to return to FALCON (which he used to win his last 9 ball world title in 1999) aournd 95ish. There was a short period in there (2000) that he played with a beautiful tuxedo Bill McDaniel cue which he used to win the Derby City One Pocket in 2000.

Talking head don’t know shit and keeps talking about Rempe’s 10,000 dollar cue. Before the break the camera man zooms in and the buttplug starts gushing.

I mean it was a nice birds eye forearm Merry Widow and Hopkins is trying to tell the guy that it is only his break cue. He finally gets the hint.

I did very much enjoy the old commercials. L.A. beer gave me made me think of this under rated gem from the Ozzmosis album: if that guitar don’t give you goose bumps you don’t got no soul:

When did the scratch spot shot on the break fizzle out?

Earl scratched on the break. The one spotted up and Varner took ball in hand behind the string; comboed the 1-9 and then proceeded to pocket the 9 on the break twice in a row.

My pops was too young for Korea and too old for Vietnam and he always played ball in hand in the kitchen rules. Never ball in hand, but always closest to string line gets spotted if shooter chooses.

What kind of preamp was used? :p
 
I think it is the white letter Nick Varner Joss Cue that Dan Janes made for Varner to sell out of his Room. If you notice the inlay on the butt he is using is the same as this one.
