So i'm just starting to get into cue collecting. Mainly i'm building my collection of McDermott's. Since most of mine are well used (sadly sometimes abused) players that I have aquired, I want to try to clean them up as much as I can. For a few I do plan to send them in for the refinishing service that McDermott offers.

My question is about what I can do or use to better clean the cues. I know there are alot of threads on this topic, especially on cleaning shafts. I havent seen as many on what to do to 'polish' the finish on the butts however. Is there a good type of pad or chemical to use to do this? Also are there any fairly inexpensive 'lathe-type' devices one could buy or build to make the results come out better?

I chose this sub-forum as I figured there may be some standard practices that some people use to get your collections ready for picture day!

I am not a cue maker, but, I have a little glass tool, called a RX Cue Doctor.
They work pretty decent on removing dings from shafts, but I've also found that they can remove small finish dents on your butt. Or, at the very least, with quite a bit of elbow grease, they can take the dings down to almost unoticable.
