Cleaning Ferrules

Hi,

I'm looking for the best way to clean ferrules on house cues. I have tried plastic cleaner and Magic Eraser. Both work ok, but am looking for something that really cleans them.

Old school painter's tape and toothpaste seems like a lot of bother for a lot of house cues though.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I use mineral spirits occasionally and acetone (nail polish remover) for real bad ones. Work quick to avoid melting the ferrule. Toothpaste and a paper towel for maintenance going forward.

windex with denatured alcohol added works pretty good.....

Is this also safe for the wood. Seems like a cue cleaner i have for cleaning shafts smells like windex. Could it be the same as your quoted mixture?

LOL, I thought the same exact thing when I opened my bottle, even my wife said it smelled exactly like Windex.

It very easily could be.

One of the popular maintenance products for making a shaft slick is actually a hair care product marketed to a specific race, according to this forum.

There used to be a shaft cleaner called Kleen Stroke or something similar that had a distinct odor of some type of alcohol, and something else I never have been able to pin down.

The stuff Wal Mart floor crews to clean the floors before buffing smells just like it. Tommy D.

Put a very small amount of gojo orange with pumice on a towel
and rub lightly on ferrule this will clean it and
then wipe it off with clean part of towel. Then if need be take a
barely damp towel with water on it to finish.

I know that one or two of the white cue cleaners that have a certain amount of grit/pumice in them have an awful lot of similarities to Vim.

I would venture a guess and say the the perfume smelling Q Silk is not much more than the ladies frizz product.

I have one cleaner that smells like diluted Pine Sol. Looks like it too.

We use Bryan Swank (UNIQUE PRODUCT,INC.) Cue Shaft Cleaner on everyrhing both customer and house cues. He labels it shaft cleaner but the special formula in it will clean and polish ferrules perfectly.
