Cleaning Simonis Cloth

So I just spent a ton of money getting four of my 9' foot tables moved (new Diamond tables coming in 2 weeks), recovered, and leveled. Not three days later some jerk who doesn't understand how to use hand soap shows up for a local league event and manages to play on each newly recovered table.

He's a mechanic. His hands are filthy. I didn't get here until the damage was done.

Anyone have suggestions on how to remove engine oil and general grease/grime from Simonis cloth?

I've thought about renting one of those "Rug Doctor" machines from Lowes w/ the upholstery attachment, but I dunno if that would damage the cloth in any way. I've tried Windex and rubbing alcohol, but neither did any good.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

I've heard about Chalk off but I don't think it would be strong enough for engine oil.

I don't think it would. In my experience, it doesn't do anything above what a light dusting of Windex can do.

Man, I would beat that guy to death with a house cue.

First, you might go to a local billiard supply store and see if you can get a piece of scrap Simonis. Take it home and clean your valve covers with it or your lawnmower engine. Something that will create the same mess that you have on your tables. Then try some various degreasing cleaners ie;Lemon Joy, Dawn, Orange Clean................etc. Your local Ace hardware will have a product called Tuff Stuff, a foam cleaner in a large yellow and orange can that I know can be used on Simonis but I don't know if it removes grease.
Good Luck

My Opinion

I believe I would use a slightly damp cloth and very lightly spray some Shout Out stain remover on the rag. I have a similar stain on my new Champion 30-30. If you wait a few minutes, I will go down and give it a try. I am using a micro fiber cloth and will spray to dampen.

Hahaha. It's not quite that bad. I've gotta run to the hardware store later and I'll look for "Tuff Stuff" and see what the directions say.

i have seen this happen several times and over time, like a month or 2 depending how much play the table gets it disappears, i wouldnt worry about it.

Try SpotShot. You can find it at your local grocery store. I haven't used it on Simonis cloth but you can try it on a spare peice. I have used this to get dried ink out of carpet and it works great. Here is a pick of the can.

Easier said than done. :( If the cloth weren't three days old at the time, I probably wouldn't be so pissed off.

i just had a diamond put in my house and it had black oil stains on it from one of the movers, it came from the US open and yeah like you i waswnt to happy in a month it was gone, i do understand how you feel, and i agree o would be pissed too. best of luck.

Stain

I Have Been Told To Try Woolite. Seems Like It Would Be Gentle Enough But Not Tough Enough. Do Let Us Know If You Find Something That Works. Thanks

It pretty well got most of it off. I also used a hair dryer lightly on it. Those that are saying it will wear off are also correct. I used a permanent marker to mark a couple racking marks and they are almost gone after five months. Tread lightly.

I gotta admit when I saw the table out front yesterday, at Shooters, I had to wonder why you put used cloth on the tables. :D ...Hope it all works out for you Eric. The place looks great.

I can assure you it wasn't used cloth. But it is now. :(

I would post this over in "talk to a mechanic" I would imagine one of those guys can offer something up.

I'm going to second the Spot Shot recommendation. I've used it on some carpet stains that nothing else would remove and it worked. I'd test it on some scrap 860 first to make sure that it doesn't lighten the fabric. The Spot Shot seems to be a fairly strong solvent that is blasted into the fabric at high pressure--if it works, the stain just immediately disappears with almost no rubbing.
