Cleaning Simonis on Rails...

I know the topic of cleaning Simonis has come up before on here, but in searching thru the previous threads it mostly related to stains from food, drinks, etc.

Here is my issue. Since I didn't recover the rails and the table was in a pool hall, they are dirty! Shows very clearly against the brand new cloth on the bed. From what I can tell, this is basic just dirt and oil from peoples hands along with chalk. Basically, the cloth looks dull. Anyone know of any tricks to help brighten it back up? So far I've done a small section with a damp cloth and a small section with Woolite carpet/upholstery cleaner. Waiting for them to dry right now to see how each worked. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Definitely NOT going attempt the brake cleaner suggestion I read in other threads due to the table being in my basement along with having 5 cats running around. Don't want to use anything that caustic.

Would rubbing alcohol be a possibility? Or vinegar?

Thanks,
Brian

Out of curiosity, why didn't you recover the rails when you had the bed recovered? Not trying to be a smartass, but that would be my first suggestion to get them to look the same.

I have the cloth for it, but I want to take the time to properly extend the subrails and put on new rubber (as well as sanding and refinishing the side skirts and ball box). But, as my "workshop" is my garage and I'm in MN, not a fun place to work during the winter... In 4 or 5 months they'll all be pulled off and redone, then things should be much better :)
