No, investing money in playing pool is not like investing money in just any other education. If investing money in "playing pool" can get you- health insurance for you and your family, retirement money, pay your mortgage/rent, put food on your table, cloths on your back, shoes on your feet and you can do this for the next 25+ years, then go for it! You stated that you are a poor imagrent (spelling error) in your thread.

Like I stated before, good luck in your decision(s).

Well, lets see; if you want to become a doctor you have to go to school for 7 years at minimum. That will cost you whole bunch of money, but you will not put your food on a table or pay your bills with it just yet. You may not even become a doctor who knows. The same thing applied to pool. Only difference is that it takes much longer than 7 years to learn it at you may not get anywhere either.

You wouldn't believe what has happened in the LAST 2 years though! Prices have skyrocketed everywhere. In February of 2004, I purchased some land in Cape Coral which was about 1/4 of an acre that went for $31,000. I get realtors constantly sending stuff to now list that property and sell it for $110-$125. I can't hardly build a home on it for under $300k and certainly not under $250k that's around 2,500 sq.ft. Florida is BOOMING and one of the hottest markets in the country. (for builders and sellers) Nothing is cheap any more. Go to www.realtor.com and input any area that you want and you'll see for yourself.

Cape Coral is way more expensive than the outskirts of Tampa. You made a great investment. Congradulations.

Listen, Bazarus, I think you are getting a little out of control with this. Comparing being a doctor to a pool player is comparing apples to oranges.

I am NOT critizing your decisions or making judgements about you. I just gave some food for thought. If you don't want to read it than dont and don't respond to it. Go be a full time pool player nobody is trying to stop you.

My brother has lived in Florida for years now, Clearwater, Sarasota, Tampa, not sure where now though. Anyway, a couple of years ago a guy came to his door and asked him if he was selling his house, which he wasn't and had no intentions on doing so. So, the guy comes back several times over the next few months offering prices until finally he gave an offer that my brother couldn't refuse. My brother profited over $60k on the deal, which made him happy, until he found out that the guy flipped it for a $20k profit the next week. Oh well, just thought I'd share, FWIW. Peace, John.

I'm reading your comments on this one. I'm just posting my own opinions. Someone will agree with them others won't. It just a way it is.

Hmmm...I can tell that you and your brother were very close. LOL (are you sure it was even FLA)? :p

Yeh...and that same guy that PAID $20k more (if he still has it) could now sell for $75-$125k more in all likelihood. Same stuff is going on in the Phoenix/Tucson area if not worse!!

Well, it coulda been Georgia, or maybe Idaho, damn, I'd call him if I had his number but he changes it every time I track him down to beg for money. Hell, he might live around the corner from me now, I'd never know. :D

I believe it.The realtor gerry lives in Ormond beach. You probably cant touch anything there under a half million. The prices have just gone crazy here in the last 2 years.Just about everyone i know is speculating and flipping condos homes land anything with to do with real estate.I know that buyers are comming from up north, from Russia ,Germany and all of South America to buy down here.its starting to taper off a little with the gas being so expensive but it wont go down in price.Thats my 2 cents. FWIW

I kept clicking the link but I was getting this strange "doesn't meet minimum requirements" error. Weird.

Hey just curious. Shouldn't it say 'click here if you are an A player or higher'? Cuz everybody is 'A player or higher' than something, anything. :D :D

Yea Bob, I live in Ormond by the sea, sounds snobby huh?:), A nice community between the intercoastal water way, and the Atlantic. It's only about 3 blocks wide, and a great place to live. Actually the small 2/1 homes here are going for at least $200k a few real "fixer uppers" are a little less. Your average nice 3/2 is around $325k and up to the sky. I've been flipping for 4 years here now, and it's still hot as ever. We also have a renovation company that is doing well with the influx of people from N.Y / N.J. seeing where we live and saying it's a steal compared to LBI or long Island. Like in any market, their are deals of a life time every week here, if you have the right people in your corner looking....Later....Gerry

Bazarus, you should move to the DC area. We have lots of 'A' players up this way! Lots of tourneys too. Tiger Planet Pool Tour is in Hagerstown, MD this weekend. Too far for you? You used to come all the way up here.

Just scored a 65 downstairs in that 10 rack 10 ball drill.

Andy

That's no fair Andy, the way you break at home, you practically sink 6 balls every break - from what I hear. I won't be able to make it this weekend. Have a good tournament. And yes, maybe the D.C. area, but in D.C. there is only 1.5 A players :)

Dammit BAZARUS, that line is getting old, you've been here for 35 years already. I learned english by the time I was a teenager. :D

I've been struggling a little bit with my table at my apartment and I have came up with an idea. I'd like to find someone who is as serious as I am and on my level or higher; that would "A" and up. I was thinking about renting a townhome apartment with a room big enough for my table, which must be a minimum of 14 x 19ft. But to do this I need a roommate, because I'm a poor emigrant ;) This could be a man or woman, but it must be someone serious and good enough to be my practice partner.
Find yourself an apartment, townhouse or condo that has the dining area and living room area as one room. As long as it is wide enough, you will be able to put in a regulation table. It will probably really cramp your "living" area but if you are serious about pool it won't make any difference. And you may not need that roommate. I did this with my wife and 3 kids - and I am fortunate - they understood and I still have them all - what a life if you have pool for an obsession! Oh, and I qualify for "A" player.

I can get a townhome with room big enough for 9ft table, but the rent is $710.00 which is $300.00 more than I can aford it, that is why I need roommate/practice partner.
