Cloth color...

I'm putting new Simonis 760 on my table. For years, the only color you could get was traditional green. Now they have every color under the sun. Any comments on cloth color? Do colors other than green make a dif - positive or negative? I'm thinking of blue so it doesn't show the chalk marks. Thanks in advance for you input!

I have trouble looking at red cloth. It gives me a headache for some reason. Plus I tend to not play as well.
 
Yup, red is out for sure. I've played on red as well and hate it. Your hands get red, the tip gets red if the owner makes you use red chalk and the whole background to the table just isn't right. A complete mess as far as I'm concerned. Maybe thats why the headache. I'm pretty sure that if I go from green it would be to blue only. What do you think?
 
I dont like blue, I just dont seem to play well on it. Red isn"t too bad aslong as its not a bright red dark red looks good to me.
 
I've never played on a blue table before. Since the chalk goes ok with it and as long as you can play alright on it then go for it.

Although if you get a blue table. Then say 6 months or a year later you go to a pool hall. Would you play the same with green cloth? If you think you would have trouble adjusting I would consider that.
 
Good point, I've seen very few pool halls with anything but green cloth. Still thinkin' about my options. I've gotta let my table guy know what color by tommorrow if I want the cloth installed in 2003. Drats!! I feel like my wife hummin' and hawin' over the color her hair should be for New Years Eve...
 
Just choose a colour that doesn't interfere with the colour of the balls.. Nothin I hate more than having trouble on cutting the 3 coz of red cloth... or the 2 on dark blue cloth.
Personally I prefer the traditional green, or a lighter blue
 
STANDARD GREEN!.....lol! I think it makes a difference. That is if you get a drastic color....like red! If you plan on playing on other tables I would suggest not going to a colored cloth on your table. Just my opinion....but I feel like it makes a difference with some people. With depth perception I guess.....and focusing. I think from one color to another could have it's difficulties.
 
yeah I have trouble with the depth perception. A tough cut is harder on a red table than a green.

But then again, I'm not a great player to begin with.
 
What's wrong with Green?

I'm considering buying a table as well and the same question comes to my mind when I look at all these beautiful tables out there.

Why the need to be different or fancy is one of the questions I ask myself? I recently shot on a new table with black felt and it was very nice but it wasn't the same.

If I didn't want to be competitive I'd go with a colored felt like Grey, I really like that Grey...it's smoothe and peaceful. Maybe one day I will get a table with that color. Me when I walk into a Poolhall I like to feel at home.

Does the color of the felt make a difference? If there's the any chance whatsoever that it can affect your game or playing ability why EVEN consider it?

In this game you need everything you possibly can have going for you.

For all the reasons mentioned, the only acceptable colors are Green and Blue. If your table is wood, go with green. If your table is black or white, then you can consider blue.

Please go with the green!

That color was not decided upon 'coz somebody pulled that color out of his/ her butt...

It is the easiest on the eyes and lends the best separation of objects viewed on its background.

You are going to be spending a lot if time focusing on that scene- do it right!!

Am I too late?!

Easy one. Pool table cloth is green. Let me be perfectly clear on that..... POOL TABLE CLOTH IS GREEN. Period. End of discussion. :) (any other color and it's called felt)
 
Yes, cloth should be green, and chalk should be blue!!!(although back in the day, tan, or camel color was about the only other color I would play on).

I played on a table with gray cloth. The table was gray with steal trim, it made a 4 1/2 by 9 look like a 6 by 12
 
I hate red cloth. I think there is some sort of visual shift caused by the longer red light waves, and apparently, I'm the only one on my team able to tell the difference. They all play just fine on red, but I am noticeably worse. There should be a law.
 
Imagine playing on a red cloth with a black light over it...had to play in a bar league in Vegas one year, and this is what one of the bars used...
by the way it was a topless bar!!!
 
I have red on my table and totally dispise it. Won't do that again. Go with pool hall green.
 
Thanks for all your input! Each of your opinions is much appreciated. I can see that the majority of players prefer a traditional green color, so hey! Simonis 760 in green it is. Thanks again.
