Cloth durability : opinions?

Hey all,

I’ve only ever used Takini cloth, which is made by Min Tables, a Korean manufacturer. My current cloth has been on for about 7 months. I play quite a lot, but not crazy amounts, and I usually play straight pool, so the 9 ball track is a highlight of the below photos, along with with cue ball spots around the head spot (from 10 ball breaks).

So, my question is, based on people’s experience with Simonis, Andy, and others, do these photos display normal wear and tear after 7 months of home use?

Never heard of takini clothe. Looks like decent stuff, where do you find it for sale?

I have simonis, probably 7 months old, though I usually just throw balls up and shoot 1,2 hour a day, few breaks it looks like new still. Few burn marks that can't be seen in that picture but all in all good

I use Simonis and replace it once a year. It gets fairly heavy play but is well(ish) maintained and I'm happy to play on it when its past it's sell by date. If I owned a pool room or even a bar which attracted serious players, I would replace it after half the amount of usage.

I'd do the same with Andy. Never (to my knowledge) played on Takini but I've heard that it's (almost) identical to Simonis but with a different brand name.

I don't think time is the primary factor in wear rates.

This is what my simonis looked like after 15+yr of moderate use.

Yes. Most worsteds show wear the same way. Some a little less than others. ANDY900 and Simonis 860HR seem to resist burn-marks a little better. Another good one is CPBA from China. A friend tried it just based on the price and it looks/plays just like any other top brand. Seems to be wearing well too. Hard to compare cloth in a house to cloth in a poolroom. Wear-rates are so different.

I live in Korea, and it’s the main pocket ball cloth used here. It runs about 150usd for a 9 foot.

Holy crap! Unless that’s a very kind photo, your cloth looks immaculate after 7 months. Jealous :(

Your cloth is going to last a long long time shooting like this. Breaking really wears the cloth out a lot faster.

Okay, that helps.

I’ve heard some people talking about replacing their Simonis every 5 years or longer, but having never used it and replacing cloth being fairly subjective, I wasn’t sure if this was due to Simonis faring much better than Takini, or, as mentioned, subjective preference. I’ve been tossing up whether to fork out the cost of getting some Simonis sent over here. However, given Takini is less than half the price before shipping etc, it sounds like it’s not worth it.

Dammit, you edited to add more info than just, “Yes.”. Now my laughing face looks completely inappropriate.

I don't play as much as you, and don't break as hard or as well, but my 860 has light burn marks from break lines after 8 months. If you are playing many hours a day then I think your cloth wore normal.

15+ year old cloth.

I feel like you’re on some kind of mission; perhaps a very convoluted game of chicken involving your cloth, your post count, and your membership length.

What kind of balls are you using? If 9B is not your primary game, I'd say the wear is quite extreme. I've had Simonis 860HR on my table for two years with 9B and 10B being the primary games played. My wear is nowhere near as severe.

Huh, okay.

Do you use any kind of break pad under your cue ball when breaking?

I use Aramith Super Pro. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to the Duramith 4s, but shipping + tax is painful :(

Duramith's are harder so burns will be less but i doubt its a huge difference.
Agreed. The difference is negligible at best. I play with a variety of sets: Centennials, Dynaspheres, Cyclop, Aramith Tournaments, Cosmos, etc. I think the key factor is the cloth. HR is supposed to be more resistant to wear.
