Apologies in advance; this is possibly an insulting response as i assume OP Shuddy is VERY astute, but on my table i have what look like wear lines along drill shots I repeatedly shoot but are actually accumulated chalk. I can vacuum them away. Sure those are wear marks and not chalk?

I must admit I get a buzz out of slamming the balls in down the rail on a fresh cloth. Daft, as it doesn't help my stroke but it's good fun.I like it when my cloth gets beat to shit, get a new one and start the process all over. That’s what it’s all about it’s a pool table, not a concourse car……

Like, this part of your “hero’s journey”. That cloth was the challenge. Replacing it was the temptation. And now you have transformed.

I had a good pool house in vegas. We did Mosconi Cup team prep there, many many many champions played there over a 4 year period
