Clovis, New Mexico had two pool halls next to each other. Both had 5 snooker tables!

This is where I learned pool. On snooker 5' X 10' tables. One pool hall had one 9' pool table in the back. The other pool hall was run by a Mexican and that was his clientel but we used to go play there with zero trouble. $.25 a game of snooker. Only the Air Force guys would ask us (snooker players) to come back and play on the pool table in the back. I'm just wondering how Eastern New Mexico and West Texas was so invested in snooker tables where the rest of the USA was in pool tables? I'm sure no one one here is from those parts but maybe you know why.

Snooker tables were common in the Midwest too. Game died off with its aging players. Pool rooms closed, bars/taverns with 7fts took over as the most common place to play.

In the 60s, if you stayed away from major cities, most rooms were half snooker in Texas.

In Alabama, most of the old pool halls I’ve played at had at least one 10 ft snooker table. Golf is the usual game played on them but there are a few places where snooker is played a lot.

Magoo's in Tulsa has a snooker table that's set up strictly for golf with pool balls. Tiny pockets, pool cushions and Simonis 300 billiard cloth. They play every day. Common game is 5-6 handed, $10/game, $1/hickey's(fouls). Saturday night game is often 20/2 or even 50/5.

I love golf but I choke on the out hole nearly every time I play.
