note to straight pool event promoters: that 2nd camera? please don't use it.

it's Never more useful than the one at the foot of the table. it's mildly amusing to see someone rack the balls from the front rather than their back, maybe, but do you really need the extra logistics for that? no. and it is Never a better view of the game than the one where the action is: the foot.

seriously, in hundreds of hours of video, i can't recall One instance where the camera at the head offered anything i couldn't see better from the foot, and literally Hundreds where it was used to frustrate what anyone interested in 14.1 would want to see.

and while you're at it, ditch the hyperactive camera ops; we really don't need to see extreme closeups following Thomas Engert's bed head as he ponders the next shot (which you're not letting us see). we want to see the table and him hitting the shot. rapid cutting between vantage points isn't exciting; it's disorienting and stupid.

one camera at the foot of the table is Better. overhead if you Really have to. but less really is more in this case.

Agreed, it seems to be there simply so they can advertise a multi-camera setup. Accu-Stats has a multi-camera setup that works because we get better angles and we can view positions more accurately. A second fixed camera is rarely useful.

Actually 2 or 3 fixed camera are good from the same end. The switching from one end to the other is confusing, imo.

From the same end you can switch when the player is in the way. I think the same rules apply to One Pocket as 14.1 when video taping.

I think the head of the table view is useful when the cue ball is up near the head rail. I like getting the player's perspective so I can think about what I would shoot next.

For the most part I understand what you are saying. It can get annoying having that camera switch right when you're in the middle of thinking along with the player.

I do however really enjoy Pat's camera boom that allows great perspective angles straight on with frozen billiard type shots, and shots that barely pass other balls. You can really see the possibilities in the rack also. That certainly adds a lot to the viewing.
