(sorry i messed up the title) i posted in the ask the cue maker section also but i know there are some people here that know the answer. what is the actual thread for a cognoscenti shaft?? example 3/8 - 11. what size tap would you have to buy for the EXCACT same pin?? also is the ring material available and if so who has it and a cost. a friend of mine had a shaft mmade from a local cue maker and it plays great but the shaft is loose on his cue (his cogs pin) when threaded on until it tightens up. it does tighten. he questioned him and he said that because it was a laminated (predator type shaft but not a predator) that he did that because sometimes when you tap the blanks it will split the shafts, or when you put them on the cue and tighten it. i have never heard this and my thought was that if a shaft would do that, it isn't right to begin with. it plays great for him and he likes it but wants to get a spare shaft but the fit of the pin has him concerned. i don't blame him a bit. he wants to have an ob1 blank done for his cue, possibly by the same cue maker but the thread looseness has him concerned. he would like to have an ob1 made with the cog ring work alos. is there anyone in az land with all the answers and someone that can make the correct shaft?? :confused: :confused: i know there is. i told him there would be an answer here, the most knowledgable community for pool there is.thanks.

I got the pins in front of me now, but my friend just called and going pick me up now. I going post in an hour...

Pin "looks like" a modified 7/16" x 11 tpi standard 60* sharp v thread. Modified in having the outside diameter turned down to .400" diameter.
The front pilot is .300" dia. x 1/4" long and rear undercut .300" x 1/16". I have to dig-up my Machinist Handbook to see if the .300" minor dia. is .300" for 7/16'" nominal size v threads..Joe's might be "custom".
I make Joint Protectors, so my internal threads are not as "tight" as the Cue's Shaft. I think the Machinist Handbook will give you a size and tororance for the minor diameter for that thread. As a "Rule of Thumb", it's about 75% of the full thread. I could be wrong. There might be a Machinist Handbook site on the 'net.. Should we move this to the "Ask the Cuemaker" section??
