Because of the war (WW1) the government issued a restriction on the usage of coal for energy and heating in particular.
Part of this restriction dictated that billiards halls cannot be heated on Mondays, from January until March. Yeah that sucks.

Very cool. No pun intended. People had to give up a lot of things
for the war effort back then. Vouchers for gas. No rubber for tires and on and on. Neet artical. Thanks for sharing.
